On a small
(ie hi-res phone) screen, the lack of scrolling is currently quite painful. It
would greatly help to have vertical scroll, particularly if the top of the page
can be visibly rendered while more of the page is rendered in the background.
Sideways "paging" is much less intuitive, and quite delay-ful 
...
(OR -- will the app cache a few pages forward and back? That might work...)
Also note:
for a left-handed person like me, touching the right side of the screen to page
forward means I block my vision every time I page forward... ie every few seconds. A right-handed person would not
notice this.
