I've seen people do this numerous times, but haven't been able to figure out the trick. What is the best/easiest/cleanest way to link to a specific post in a thread rather than just to the thread or a certain page of the thread?
Ron,
as I see it, every forum post has its individual link, see my screenshot for yours:
Thus you may copy the link address (e.g. with a right click in your Firefox or IE)
http://community.logos.com/forums/p/34638/259856.aspx#259856
and may past it into any post to directly link to it.
Edit: as an example, I copied the link address with right click on this icon from a post by Martin Folley on page three in the "Meet & Greet"-thread.
http://community.logos.com/forums/p/34510/258586.aspx#258586
You will see, it opens his posting right away
Hope this helps,
Mick
Wow, that's easy! No way am I going to tell you what I did to come up with the direct links before, though! Suffice it to say it involved about half a dozen steps and, as a rather unpleasant mnemonic device, some very repetitious muttering of a multi-digit post ID [:O]
"Whatever it takes to get it done," is what I always say. Just nice to know it doesn't take as much as I thought. [:)]
Awesome! I've often wondered this, but never bothered asking. Thanks for the question and thanks for the great reply!
To add to this ... ever wondered who they replied to when they didn't include a quote?
Click on the "replied" link and it will take you there! Check it out.
Just a bit more about the Forum in general.... Click on the photo below to open a new window that you can enlarge the view...It took me quite a while on the forum before I even became aware of this area at the bottom of the home page.
This is this page: http://community.logos.com/forums/
Wow! Excellent information Mick & Praiser!! Thanks! [:)]
I can't believe I never noticed the little link icon by each post...I thought I had looked all over...though I was probably looking mostly on the right side by the reply/more buttons.
Just beware of the random forum stripping bug which seems to strip the first part of the address out on me from time to time leading to the creation of a dead link.
