Big Mac Catalog.db Size

This is a re-post/question, based on my original thread here, but now placed in the L4Mac forum.

Why is the catalog.db file on the mac so large when compared with the windows equivalent, for the same user (same resources)?

Is this a Beta issue or a Mac issue?

 

It is only of real relevance when trying upload to Mark Barnes's excellent library utility.

I have tried to compact a copy of the Db file under Mac, and it has made no appreciable difference (186.9Mb -> 183.9Mb). The windows version of catalog.db is reports as 45.4Mb. That is one quarter of the mac size!
