Looking for a Touch Screen Laptop/ Tablet.

Good morning.  I'd like to get more mobile with Logos and was at first considering an Ipad.  However I'd really like to have windows 7 OS so I can have full-blown Logos and all my other programs at hand.  I'd like for it to be portable, powerful and have the screen flip or rotate flat and be touch.  I've looked at the HP touch laptop but the processing speed doesn't look to meet the recommened Logos requirements.  And some of the others...But I don't know if I'm comparing the processing speeds properly with the different chips out there.  Does anybody have one now that can recommend it or know of one that would work well.

The recommended requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:

  • Core 2 Duo 2 GHz

    There are going to be several that will run Logos 4.  The problem is how fast and how well.  The minimum requirements to run Logos are not going to run it fast.  Enough ram memory is also a big issue.

    Also, there is the built in problem that Windows 7 is not primarily designed to be a "touch pad" operating system.  That causes limitations.

    If you are wanting full blown Logos 4, then you are probably wanting it to run at a level that is easier achieved through a lap top than a pad computer.

    Then again, I am no expert and may be completely wrong.

    I believe HP makes one that people said worked well with logos (not the web os one but the Windows 7 one). And Dell makes what you might call a convertable... it's a tablet the pops open to be the typical clam shell laptop. There is a gentleman on here who writes for a magazine who is the one, i believe, who had the HP. LOL I am full of helpful info am I not....

    I've been looking at the HP on on-line and what I can see you can't customize them anymore.  Here is the current specs on the "ready to ship" model.

    I bought a Netbook from Toshiba a year ago (NB305-N410) with Win7 starter. I replaced the original 1 GB with a 2 GB ram stick. I am running full L4. It takes a while to load and switching layouts is pretty slow. But I am able to run Several linked translations and Original language tools (BDAG, Louw-Nida, etc.) An 11 hour battery plus full access to Microsoft Office and Logos4. Here is a screenshot of one of my layouts.

    This is not my main computer for working in Logos, but it does allow me to work from the Hammock in the backyard connected to my wifi network.

    One up from a netbook is the Asus Eee Slate.  In Canada you can find them at BestBuy.  Model EP121.  It is a Tablet running Win 7 Home Edition and has a decent processor (i5-470uM).  Downside: battery life.  I tried one out on display, and I figured touch-screen and Win 7 aren't good buddies yet.

    Thanks for all the input.  Floyd that is the one I'm looking at.  My understanding is that these have had different specs in the past (they could be customized).  Do you know if your processor is the Core i3 that they have in the current model?

    I will need to check on the CPU on my machine - I doubt if it is a Core i3, but do not know for sure.  I am typing this on a small netbook (that also running LOGOS, albeit a bit slower) - I will be at the tablet later today. 

    As for touch, it does not have the resolution of a mouse; but because this model also is a pen input device, this is not a huge problem.  I will use touch input to manipulate the screen (i.e. not the program).  To give you an idea of the granularity of touch input, I occasionally use touch to play mahjong and/or solitare with no problems.

    Boy after reading some of the issues on the I-Pad vs Android thread I'm really leaning towards a Tablet Pc.  Don't have to worry about any of the money grubbers stopping the ebooks or non-apple apps or whatever.

    I've been using the HP tm2t (i5) for over a year--I bought it to run Logos 4.  I love it, although the battery is beginning to fade and I need to replace it.  It looks like HP is preparing to stop selling these though--hence only the i3's are still available.  I suspect the i3 wouldn't be powerful enough to keep Power Lookup and Information or Cited By tools open while cranking through a large library.  Even with the i5, I normally close those tools so I can get enough responsiveness as I page through resources.  You might be able to pick a reconditioned one up from HP's outlet store on their website--it should tide you over until Logos releases their Android version and opens up an entirely new class of highly mobile Bible study devices in the future.
