"Community Pricing" for Logos 'Changes' :)

What would you think about having a 'setup' similar to Community Pricing, where large Projects like - Tagging all Resources with People, Places, and things (mentioned in another Post), or Pre-indexing Logos could be a fee-sable weight carried by a little help from everyone.

What in the world are you suggesting now? You don't seem to be making any sense whatsoever. Frankly, Douglas, I tend to think that you aren't really a Logos user at all but a Troll whose sole intent is to sow confusion. You are continually making suggestions of a rather hair-brained nature to which you have obviously given little or no thought whatsoever. If you want to make a suggestion and are not a Troll, as I suspect you are, then I suggest you develop it a bit. Show what utility your suggestion has. Indicate how it would be executed. Don't simply throw out ideas then say "I'm just trying to make a good program better." "Better" in what way?

I have seen elsewhere in this Forum concern for the 'cost effectiveness' of an Idea. And although it may be a swell Idea users reject it. This idea would help solve the barrier that may keep so many Good ideas from being considered.

Considering the Logos is doing the tagging with the money I already send their way, I have no particular desire to send them more money to get what I'll get anyway. I'm funny that way.[;)]

Voting for the resources we want to buy is a lot different than voting for features in a program. I have a lot more confidence in Logos continuing to evolve the software to be an excellent package, than I do in our community "democratically" deciding the features the package should support. That would become a pretty bad piece of software pretty quickly.

Precisely the danger I see in UserVoice. I love to hear people's opinions and ideas but to allow them to think they have (or worse yet, to actually posses) deciding control over the future of the program, is a dangerous and doomed prospect.

Mob-ocracy reduces the quality down to the lowest common denominator. No, make that lower than the lowest. Even the dumbest amongst us cannot individually do as poorly as the consensus of all.

Maybe if I understood what in the world Douglas is trying to say, I could entertain a thought. I just don't get it.

In this Forum, Ideas are discussed, and then voted on in UserVoice, in this way it is a Mob-Ocracy (lol)

But this was the furthest thing from my suggestion.

If the masses have voted for an idea that will just not fit Logos' budget at the time, this Idea could be an Option.

Think, even Wikipedia asks for donations... (not what I am implying, thus the upgrade packages suggestion addition, for those who want their program to have this large project feature). Just to cover costs for an over the budget idea

$10 + 5000 people = $50,000

That's maybe 1 yrs salary for a programmer (not saying "pre-indexing" for example, would cost that much, but they may have their sights and funds tied elsewhere at the time)

That's the power of $10!

Would you pay $10 one-time to have your new resources properly indexed before they ever get to your computer? I would.

These suggestions are simple. But I guess if I was buried in as deep of study as the bigger part of these users are i might have problems too.

In your case, let your computer do it. In a first time users case, who just bought Portfolio, let Logos do it.

I never built a rocket but I did marry the 19 year old just after I turned 21. I guess that makes me dumb but I still don't get it.

Logos indexing has never bothered me much. I sure don't want to pay extra to have them do it.

I think it would be better to just use the web based index (using a webservice) until the actual index has been created...that way it would immediatly work, optionally to save time/space you could turn off the local indexing and always use the web based indexing.

I like the idea of being able to donate to new features that we want to see...especially if they are esoteric in nature, or don't necessarily fit into the goals of logos (ie. being able to link in textbooks, other religious texts or content from project gutenberg) or doing things that would require more research and development (automatic translation, co-operative translation) or that requires more resources (streaming video/audio of sermons or lectures).
