If we can get it to $40that would be .70 cents a book!!! I bet we can do it.
but that would still be $40 for a resource that we may not open beyond day 1.
Anyone care to suggest a reason why to bid?
(It probably does not have to be much of a reason, with purchase history [8-)] )
Martin, I'm not sure how Google manages this (depending on your location and its copyright permissions) but Google books provides plenty of sampling for this resource. I just browsed through the volume dedicated to the Epistles to the Thessalonians and was impressed with the background history, the quick dismissal of possibly lengthy discourse on issue of authorship, and a two part commentary/extensive work in the Greek. The Thessalonians volume is very technical while at the same time conversational, unlike some of the WBC that mixes greek work with commentary. I'm interested in seeing this one come into our libraries
Interesting Note: The beginning of the Thessalonians volume even exclaims how this particular work was supposed to be completed by the famed W. F. Moulton who regretfully "relinquished the work" on account of "the pressure of other duties" to the Rev. George G. Findley (Prof. of Biblical Languages in the Wesleyan College, Headingley). It then goes on to say that the work was still proofed by Moulton.
I'll let others speak for the NT volumes, but in the OT commentaries there are several highly acclaimed authors: S.R. Driver (of Brown-Driver-Briggs fame, and one of the foremost OT textual critics), J. Skinner (wrote commentaries in the ICC series, and another great scholar) and A. B. Davidson (wrote an excellent OT theology). T. K. Cheyne is also highly regarded. I am not as familiar with some of the others, but I expect that there will be some excellent commentaries along with some disappointing ones among them. This really looks a very good deal.
the way things are moving I'll say we're at $40 by noon tomorrow (Wed)
Thanks for the reminder, Mark. I'm already in.
Anyone has any experience with the Isaiah volumes? In spite of all the hundreds of commentaries I have, I've found that I have almost nothing on "The Fifth Gospel".
I found the following short reviews regarding the series:
"A serviceable series is the Cambridge Bible for Schools andColleges, ed Perowne, with the Smaller Cambridge Bible for Schools, and theCambridge Greek Testament (1881-1933). Perowne (d 1904) himself contributed tothe first-named the comms on Obadiah, Jonah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, andGalatians. Many valuable contributions appear in this series, e.g., A. F.Kirkpatrick on 1 and 2 Samuel and Psalms, A. B. Davidson on Job and Ezekiel,Driver on Daniel, G. G. Findlay on Thessalonians, etc."
Geoffrey W. Bromiley, vol. 1, The International StandardBible Encyclopedia, Revised (Wm. B. Eerdmans, 1988; 2002), 741.
"One of the older publications that ought not be lost tomemory is The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (CB), a series begun inCambridge in 1877 under John J. S. Perowne (1823-1904), who was succeeded byAlexander Francis Kirkpatrick as editor of this series. The appearance of thevolumes belies the value of the resources contained in them, and many of themhave gone through numerous reprintings or editions. The series is not designedfor specialists, but some knowledge of Hebrew is presumed in the exposition ofthe Old Testament, and a little Greek is expected of users of the New Testamentsection."
Frederick W. Danker, Multipurpose Tools for Bible Study,Rev. and expanded ed. (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 1993), 289.
I think that the benefit of this series is definitely worth more than $40. It may not be your first priority reference, but the benefit of being able to search it as part of Logos makes it well worth it.
Those who cannot afford more recent series such as WBC or NICNT/OT should be all over items like this. Who could go wrong at 95% off? [:D]
Let's push this to $30!
[Y]
I am in.
The volumes on the apocraphah alone make this worth getting at CP prices, we have so few commentaries on these books that it is well worth buying./p>
I almost missed that value. Would be interesting to see better coverage of these even if we don't feel they belong in the canon.
I'm in. Hoping to get it for $40.
Count me in.
Well, consider that I shall be rumbling in like a little herd of wild crippled turtles!!!!
I'm in, but I'd like to see the price drop much lower. I'm sure it's a valuable resource, but I've got a budget to stick to, and Facebook sales, Forum Weeks and CP titles ain't helping!
I would guess that it might take a year to produce a set this large.
No money spent until it releases.
Everyone gets a notice before it is released so customers can cancel if finances dictate.
Well, it's now 'noon tomorrow' (Weds) and it's just creeping up to about 90% at $40.
It's kind of surprising folks don't grab this, because if you wanted a Logos version of the classic ICC but you didn't want the 'wordy version', this would fit the bill nicely and at a fraction of the cost.
In my opinion, this one's much easier to quickly use and many of the same authors.
When this is published, I'd bet we're looking at $550 judging from the pricing policy Logos applies for this type of resource.
Just a thought - if anyone is waiting for the price to drop to $40 before jumping in had better bid $40 now. If the price never reaches $40, you will not receive this set. But your $40 bid could help move this down to $40 -
If $40 is your price point, place your bid now.
What is happening with the Cambridge Greek Testament? It is a far more valuable and helpful resource than this one.
Yes!!!! Let's work to get it over the top. Both sets would be a useful asset to ones collection.
[Y] Exactly!
I was going to quote myself, being wrong, but then I decided to wait to see which person would quote me to officialize the wrongnivity. Denise, I was expecting Giovanni B! Not you!
Paul ... I wasn't being negative .... I was disappointed at not meeting your great optimism!
Gosh, now my day is ruined! Giovanni?
This is another resource that has languished in obscurity for reasons I can't fathom. Maybe now it will be noticed and head toward 100% as well.
That's a matter of opinion! To a non-Greek speaker that would be as helpful as an ash tray on a motorcycle [:)]

Not only might it help to move it down to $40, you will also receive a notification enabling you to raise your bid -- on second thought perhaps you won't since those notices have already been sent. This shows the importance of placing a bid early even if you low-ball it.
[quote]
There are no better books in exposition of the different parts of Scripture than those contained in the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges. The series has long since established its claim to an honorable place in the front rank of first-rate commentaries; and the teacher or preacher who masters its volumes will be, like Apollos, mighty in the Scriptures.
—Church Sunday School Magazine
Is this a 100-year old truth or was this only true a 100 years ago?
I could not help but wonder when I read this [;)]
Martin, I'm not sure how Google manages this ...
Thanks Paul
I'm in too.
This one is almost at $40. If we can get a little push everyone will get this resource for .70 cents a book. That's better than the thriift store clearance table[:)]
Bump ... and a great thanks to Fred for trying to make this more affordable for everyone.
Many people aren't aware this set heavily favors the prophets and the NT authors (thanks to Logos' great 'book-artists'!). Plus of course a thrift store table would tip over with all these books!! $40?!
So.... close to $40
Also remember that the set INCLUDES 1 Maccabees, Ecclesiasticus, and The Wisdom of Solomon ...
It's often hard to get several opinions on the OT apocrypha. $40 wouldn't normally even buy you a single commentary book on Ben Sira.
Well it's looking like it will open and close at $50, I am very surprised that it hasn't fallen.
That being said, I was pretty surprised when I got the email telling me it was going to close this week!
I've been in since this product was a prepub before it was a cp. I agreed to I think a $258 pricetag when this was a prepub. Now that its a cp I bid a bit higher than what it is currently at.
CALLING ALL 11TH HOUR CP PARTICIPANTS!!!!
This ship sails in 18.5 hours!
ALL ABOARD
Haven't seen a link for awhile:
Wow $40 is SO CLOSE, we can't need but a few people to bid $40 or $50 to push it over the top!
And a link for page 3:
It now stands at 88 cents per book!
If those who are in at 40 willup to 50 we will all get it for 40
Upping your bid from $40 to $50 won't change anything because it is already counted as a $40 bid. The way it looks now it should be going for about $42. If Logos would price it in $5 increments instead of $10 it would definitely be $45. I'm not sure how they decide on the scale gradient but in this case it is definitely working against us.
Tom

You are correct, but, if anyone who has bid $30 or less is willing to increase their bid to $40, it might help.
12.5 hours to go. I've seen some close ones but this is rediculous!
I just put in a $50 bid - it needs a few others to get to the $40 mark.
$50 is no doubt a bargain, but I would much prefer to pay $40 for this.
Anyone holding out for any specific reason?
I have been in from the beginning.
However, I had a thought. There is another way to get the price down to $40 - to have LOGOS re-evaluate the cost of this set. It has happened a couple of times before and the price has unexpectedly dropped.
Come on, LOGOS. Is $50 really what it costs to make this set - or could it be done for $40 or $45, given the number of bids received. Let me encourage you to get out your virtual pencils and shave every penny off of your estimated production cost and see if $40 might not be just enough to cover the real costs.
I don't have any. I'm in, but in the unlikely event I change my mind, I can cancel later. It will be available on iPhone & iPad.
I have a number of good commentaries, but one can read comments from many commentaries fairly quickly in Logos if your interest is only concerning a verse or two or three. So no one need even try to talk me out of this bargain.
