Reftagger NIV2011

Is there any chance that the NIV update might be available for Reftagger in the near future? That's what I typically quote on my blog, and I'd love to be able to keep everything consistent, although I certainly understand there are copyright issues and such to be settled between Logos and the CBT/Zondervan.

I have liked and used the NIV translation for years though recently I've been using ESV for the majority of my reading. Unfortunately, NIV 2011 is reported to have questionable translations. If the report is accurate and the translation is not Biblical, it is best for Logos to not offer it. See the Christianity Today article Gender Debate: SBC Pastors Denounce NIV for a brief summary.

And since gender issues are the main point of debate for the SBC denoucement, it should be emphasized that both Wallace and Decker are conservative complementarians.

The irony is that more likely than not, the majority of SBC pastors who received their training since 1993 learned the skills that they supposedly used to evaluation the translation by a textbook written by one of the translators: William Mounce. That's right. Mounce worked on the NIV 2011.

When it comes down it it, the NIV2011 is no more flawed than any other modern translation produced by respected scholars (i.e. the New World Translation need not apply). To the extent that it was produced by humans it won't be perfect, but to the extent that those scholars are gifted and highly qualified for the task and also care deeply about accurately representing the meaning of the text, it will still be a good and reliable translation.
