Can we do this in L4?

I do not know if I am allowed to reference another bible software, but perhaps you will know what I mean. A major program allows you to view a verse in Greek and see how the manuscripts match up to it. (Even showing an actual scanned picture of the manuscript)

So showing John 1:1 would show the manuscripts you prioritized and how they varied in their variant readings

Can we do something similar in L4? Maybe through sympathetic highlighting, but it would be great to have it positioned on top of one another....

Text comparison does some of what you are asking. Make a collection of Greek Bibles and select that collection in your text comparison tool. Clicking on the blue and grey A at the top right shows the differences. You can also have it display horizontally or vertically by clicking in the resource menu. A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament by Metzger can also be helpful.

Jerry M has already given you sound advice on the tools you might be able to use to do what you ask, so I'll just answer the question about mentioning other software.

Basically, yes it would have been just fine to mention the other software in this context. Dan Pritchett gave us some very good guidance concerning this in this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/20261.aspx?PageIndex=1

The rules come down to common courtesy. We should not promote another software over Logos on the Logos forums, link to the other sites etc.

I've heard people suggest having scans of manuscripts in Logos before and I think it would be handy and interesting.

Conceptually treat the scans similar to maps and then x/y the 'verses'. That'd have to be v5 since v4 already great.

The underlying question:

When another product introduces something we want/need, how much should we push for those features to go on the drawing board for the near future. I know that a lot of folks are salivating over PBB, in the next release. For me, it is a total non-starter and a waste of time. Particularly when we have to cobble together Text-critical tools. If it was up to me I would have logos drop everything else and get something like the CNTTS Database ready as soon as possible (Maybe that will be the next logical step with the SBLGNT,)

The "big 3" software companies have their eyes on each other, this is clear. Maybe we need to help give them direction about which features in those competing products are essential and which are not.
