I don't mean stuff like downloading or indexing, but what I realized today as for the first time it is gone from my tray. I suppose it means that it is finally all done. I have not had a chance to see yet to which extent, but I have already seen what a difference it makes in my experience in the discovery of L4. Contrarily to Windows, indexing does not seem to be not just something that takes place in the background while you carry on your work with little interference. What is becoming clear to me is that L4 depends so much on indexing that our rush in seeking to discover the new features before it was all done may account for many of the frustrations and disappointments.

Quite possible. On Vista/Windows 7 you can push the indexing into the background (context menu option on blue icon!) but it could take a week or more!
