Is it possible to test drive my Logos library on my kid's iPad?

I have Logos 4 on my Windows 7 PC laptop. I have been holding back on which reader to get: iPad or Android. My son just bought an iPad and my son-in-law has an Android device. Both units have been demonstrated to me with high enthusiasm of their respective owners.

I am wondering if I can "test-drive" my Logos library on both units to see how it functions so I can determine which unit to go for. I understand I will have to install apps on each one to access my library. Do they require downloading of resources? Do they have any indexing? Can they be deleted when my test-drive is done? I do not want to leave my account vulnerable to tinkering, accidental or mischievous. Big Smile

How is one to go about a 1 hour test-drive on each?

I apologize for being so ignorant of these youthful gadgets. Thanks for indulging my newbie questions.

Hi - this is all doable!

Do they require downloading of resources?

They don't actually require downloading of resources - you can access them all online. (At one stage, the Android app - at least - always downloaded the ASV, not sure if this is still the case)

    Do they have any indexing?

    No

Can they be deleted when my test-drive is done?

I believe all you need to do is to delete the app

I do not want to leave my account vulnerable to tinkering, accidental or mischievous.

Understand! You don't actually need to login as "you" - there are a limited number of free resources you can access which will give you a feel for the app. If you want to access your personal library you will need to log in.

    Hope this helps - enjoy.

I would add that the speed of your internet connection will be crucial to your experience. If possible test both units at the same place.

As others have said, you can test drive Logos on both and delete them with no problem. I just wanted to add...please be sure to post your opinions here. I'd love to hear your take on both platforms.

Keep in mind that the iOS version is well on it's way while the Android version is brand new....just out of the gate.  [:O]

~Good point I did not consider. Not only will I try them both on the same internet connection, I will try them on different connections. My home service is fast but the intended environment may be considerably slower. I will try the Coffee shop, Donut shop,  library, college campus, and a couple waffle joints. I am going to get fat on this quest.  My first hurdle will be to persuade both fellas to part with their toys.

I assume you are aware of this but - for pure reading - you can access resource offline once you have downloaded them.

If you want additional features - search, Passage Guides, BWS etc - you do need to be online

    Graham

EDIT: Sorry, offline search was introduced in 1.6 on the iPad app

Will the Android device be endangered by using the app? In years past I've enjoyed hundreds of crashes while using beta software on my desktops.

You can tell I have avoided everything related to these devices. I have no clue what is possible; good or bad.

All I can say is that it hasn't caused any problem to my Android device!

I don't recall a thread in the Android forum which talks about any danger to the device - but you could always be the first!

It will take me a while. Every time I look at the devices, the boys want to show me their latest apps. (  Did you know you can use the Android device to choose a level table at the pizza parlor?  And you can hum a tune into your iPad and it tries to identify it for you!) I will probably have to do my test-drive when they are both absent. Otherwise I will never get to Logos.

WoW. I had no idea it has come this far. I thought the apps were just a glorified reader. Searches, BWS,,,,   Can it display Greek & Hebrew?  Do my collections and prioritizing sync over?   Are the changes made in offline mode synced when connection is reestablished?

There are official vids here that should give you a nice overview of what the app can do

Don't have an iPad myself so I can answer any specific questions about functions and syncing.

Currently, the "clever stuff" is only for iPad, Android (as noted) is some way behind but is only in beta.

A couple of iPad screenshots to whet your appetite!

    Yes

There's very few changes you can make in offline mode - all I can think of is position in a resource when reading which I believe is synched when you reconnect

    This is all very exciting.

My son is gone to Bible camp this week and his iPad is here at home. It would be a perfect time to test-drive Logos on it but it has a password.........[:(]  This is going to be a long week.  [O]_[sn].....................................................................................[O]_[sn]

    0001; 0002; 0003;0004 [:)]

    Some common passwords are: 1234, 0000, 2580, 1111, 5555, 5683, 0852, 2222, 1212, 1998. You can also try the "four in a row method."

I know he would not mind, but I will wait for his return anyway. He must have a reason to have it password protected. If it were one of my daughters' diaries I would not have even imagined the thought. [:|]

As a kid my motto was; "It is easier to obtain forgiveness than gain permission."

As a parent my motto is; "It is easier to display ignorance than to feign it."

A common reason for an iPad to be password protected is if the user has an exchange email account set up, which generally requires a password to be in place. Of course, keeping out little sisters / brothers is also a good reason. [:D]
