What is going on!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been installing v.4 for 3 days- it keeps updating and indexing taking anywhere from 2- 8 hours!

My PC has yet to finish the initial install- I think hard to tell keeps doing stage 1,2,3, then indexing.

Is this going to happen everytime we get an update or buy a product?

And a lot of functionality has been lost- my collections did not carry over from v3- so do I have to rebuild all my collection, etc.?

The home page is well terrible- liked the old HP it had some uses.

Disappointed !!!!!!!!! I can`t believe you would say that, I have only started using L4 after a mammoth download but it is absolutely brilliant, building collections is a breeze, just be patient, take your time to become familiar with it, again I have to say L4 beats L3 by a 100000000000000000000 miles.

don't give up yet!

Installing for 3 days seems excessive...updating and indexing though...that's different. After your first index you should be able to use the software; it's just that searches might not be accurate...that's all.

No...from now on it's incremental indexes...

No...your collections didn't carry over but I have to say....give it a chance...you may not need all of them...I didn't . The collections and searching are built on a different philosophy in V4...

you can start it without the home page...you can even start up at whatever you were doing last...its' the same as starting at a predefined workspace...

Is this going to happen every time we get an update or buy a product? Not anymore. In the early betas it did. Now, once there IS a master index, it can put new stuff in a suplemental index. You might want to got to Tools - Program Settings - Use Internet OFF until the initial index is done. The installation experience DOES need work.

I yelled at Bob about getting import into the release, but in my opinion, he is right about collections. The new collection format is better.

I found no property setting to include what you want and don't want- other than the passage uide page that allows me to turn off items like biblical people, which I haven't used other than just to see what it does.

I'm seeing a whole lot of fluff [:(]

Read his solution and try it. It can't hurt if you follow the instructions exactly. (I'd say turn off the internet updates then close the program and restart the computer to be sure downloading/indexing is stopped.)

You definitely have a problem, IMHO. I did at the beginning of Beta - couldn't get the program to install at all for about a week - very frustrated. Now, I'm a happy camper. So, hang in there.

Build a collection with your journals by creating a collection (Tools>Collections, NEW, Name it Journals, the use keywords (e.g. Journal) and close. Create a custom passage guide, add a collection block and check off the journal collection, voila all of what you want, none of what you don't.

AND the new collections are dynamic, they automatically will add according to your keywords. Any time you add new journals, they're already in there.

I understand that collections are important. However, I was able to recreate almost all the old collections I used easily. The one exception is that I haven't found a way to pull together some of my theologian collections so I could compare and contrast how they use a passage in my passage guides. I will probably have to do some "My Tags" to make that work. But the new system is so much more flexible and easy to use.

Like you, I see a lot of Eye Candy, and am not personally a visual learner, but most people are. I'm just glad that we have as powerful of a command bar as we do.

Poke your nose around here I think, replacing spitzerpl with your username. Its buried in this directory I believe. But this folder was not meant to be messed with as per Bob.

I think this is an excellent point. I think a lot of the reason people get a bad impression of L4 is because it is so easy to do and manage things that it seems like there must be more to it.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can add one collection to another. Say you want all of Pink's works in the theology collection and you want a collection of Pink's works. Rather then making your rule un-ruley you can create your pink collection, open your theology collection, click "Open" navigate to the Pink collection and drag it to the "+ these resources" section.
