Anyone aware of a problem with Logos4 and OpenGL on a pc?
Thanks
I'm not. What are the symptoms?
How can I know if the my dedicated GPU is coming on? Are there any GPU monitors that will show what card intel or amd is being used?
HP is having some problems with opengl.
I don't know what OpenGL is, but the reason I didn't buy my intended laptop, a HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition, was because of these comments from customers:
Extremely disappointedJuly 11, 2011This laptop seemed like a perfect fit for me at first, and I was very excited to order it. Right in my price range, and a good level of performance for what I wanted to do. Fast forward to the laptop showing up at my door, I'm excited to test it out, and see what it could do. I install a couple games, and try to run them, only to have them crash, claiming the current hardware setup doesn't support OpenGl. A bit of research later, and I find something I should have looked for before ever placing the order. It turns out the graphics card you pay for won't be running any time you're running an OpenGl application, because the "switchable graphics" that claims to be a power saving tool doesn't work with OpenGl, so you'll only ever be able to access the low powered Intel integrated GPU. This is a HUGE problem for me, and don't let anyone tell you it isn't. If you ever intend on using OpenGL software (and if you're a gamer at all, you do) then this is NOT the laptop for you. I'll be returning it as soon as I can.
Adobe Photoshop doesn't work.July 12, 2011I purchased this premium laptop so that I could edit my photos and play games. One of my favorite games is Minecraft; however, it runs so SLOW. I think it is running off only the Intel HD 3000. Why would I pay premium money to get a laptop that DOES NOT utilize the 6770m. Also, photoshop only uses the weak Intel integrated graphics. I am a professional and I need a laptop that can run my full Adobe CS Suite. FIX THIS or I'm RETURNING IT.
Open GL Y U No Work!July 14, 2011I bought this computer for the amazing specs, and it truly is a great piece of hardware. Unfortunately there has been much trouble with the Open GL support and I have recently run into that problem even though I thought it wouldn't be a big issue. I have tried multiple (diy) soultions such as reverting to the the 6000 drivers so I could have manual graphics switching for the ati 6770m card, but I had no success. For people that are some what inexperienced, open gl is very important, and this lack of support is frustrating for many users. I resorted to talking to tech support and they did say a fix was coming (dont know if that is true or not) but there is no time line for when the driver fix will be out. Until then, I give this computer a 1 star and do not recommend it, but if the fix does come out, I will gladly change it to a 4.5 and recommend it to all of my friends. If any moderators read this please tell the developers to hurry up the fix, im still open to returning this computer before the 21 days are up.
Eric,
Yep, this is the problem. Unfortunately I have one of the HP machines and it appears that the dedicated graphics card is not kicking in. Everything says it is there, but it does not seem to start.
Two questions:
1. How can I know for sure that it is not starting?
2. What does this mean for Logos4?
Steve,
I don't think Logos uses opengl, but I'm not certain about that, a developer would have to weigh in. It's optional with WPF/.NET to use opengl to display an app as far as I can tell from my googleing.
Here's a workaround that could tell you if the dedicated graphics were being used or not
If the card's temps have gone up it's likely that the card is doing something
The only other diagnostic I can think of right now is to find a program that runs off of opengl and see how it runs or doesn't run on your pc
HP could not fix the graphics card problem and is refunding me for the machine. This is the third machine since January that I have had to send back to HP.
So, I am back to hunting for a new computer and new manufacture that will run Logos4.[^o)]
