My take on Logos 4...

First of all, I want to thank the Logos Team for their hard work on a product that can truly revolutionize and simply our time in the Word of God. It is truly amazing the technology we can use these days to help out.

Secondly, I'm a little concerned with all the grumbling I hear in the forums. It doesn't seem like it is warranted. Patience, apparently is no longer a virtue.

Thirdly, I have no clue what I'm missing as a Mac user with Logos 4 because I've never experienced a fully functional Logos product. Apparently this is to my advantage considering all the frustrations Windows users have with having a better functioning product not work as they like.

Fourthly, I look forward to being a part of the Alpha and Beta process with other Mac users.

Question: I'm hearing that an update will be released every 2 weeks until Logos 4 for Mac is fully caught up. Is this the case?

Until then, I will enjoy my old Logos for Mac and enjoy the Word of God. I think we all need to step back and remember that we have the Word of God, regardless if our Logos program is functioning as we like. This is worth rejoicing in, and it should stop all the grumbling. God's word has been given to us. Let that lightened our frustrations about the program we use to access it.

I can answer the question about Alpha/Beta releases for the Mac. They are planned for every two weeks (or so). I imagine sometimes they will be quicker (bugs do creep in and can be squashed quickly).

Well, I have used Logos for the past decade or so. I beta tested back in the 90. I beta tested for the new windows v4. When 1.2.2 came out, I stopped using 3. Personally, I found it clunky and most of the features made little sense to me. Quite honestly, I was happy for the simplicity of Logos on Mac!!!

L4 is another thing though. I am excited to use it, but I still am now only using 1.2.2 and testing for the Alpha. Here is the advantage you wil have. When yo ugo through the Alpha/Beta process, you will really get to know the software and grow as it grows. At the end, you will be a real power user. Instead of being overwhelmed with all the tools, you will come to understand and use them effectively.

Can I run both on the same machine? I would like to transfer over, but not ready to commit myself until more bugs are worked out. (i.e. I want a backup)

Question for you about running both versions at the same time - do you simply change the destination folder when doing the installation? Are there any nuances to doing the installation? Is there any problem with purchased resources running on both versions?

Thanks - I'm trying to decide when to jump into the upgrade. I just have a very stable 1.2.2 version on Leopard and I don't want to disrupt that operating environment.

patience is still a virtue. it just rarely is pushed this far with paying customers. there are a lot of mac users who feel ripped off, or at the least, treated like 2nd hand customers. the co-founder of the company himself has basically stated this on these forums.

i find it odd that Logos is saying that someone who admits he is naive to what he should expect from their company would say he is a breath of fresh air. should we lower the standard? is that what this implies? should we assume Logos to be 3rd best and not ask them to strive for better?

as far as promises, mac users have heard them for years. not weeks... years. if patience is a virtue, then mac users must be very virtuous people at this point.

we still have the word of God, yes, but that is hardly the point of the complaining from mac users. the complaint is that we have spent a lot of money for a product from a company which tends to excel in Bible software. the assumption was that, after such a long wait, we would get a good (or even great) product. however the mac version (1.2.2) is EXTREMELY lacking features and the new alpha v.4 is literally pointless on the mac at this date.

another complaint from the mac users is that the http://MacBibleSoftware.com website is pointed to Logos v.4, which at this point, seems very deceiving to me, and many others on these forums. since that isn't even close to the product being offered.

one last complaint - i upgraded over the phone and was mistakenly sent windows upgrade disks instead of Mac. when i called "customer service" i was basically reprimanded by the "customer service" person for the mistake that Logos had obviously made.

all in all, i truly hope their promises are true, and we will have a great product as it seems the windows users already have. i also hope that this company would realize that mac users would be more apt to purchase their software if they weren't seeing other mac users treated so poorly.

L1mac can be installed anywhere and you can select a destination folder. L4alpha for mac does not allow you to customize destination. If you install L1mac first, then the Alpha will copy over the resources and create a new directory. All purchased books will run on both.

Installing and testing the Alpha will not in any way harm your use of 1.2.2. The more testers we get, the better our product will be, so please help out brother.

I don't share your views on most of what you write, but if those are your feelings, I am sure they are valid. However, I agree 100% with this statement.

Bob, please don't point the MacBibleSoftware to the L4 site. That is confusing at best and deceptive at worst. It muddies the waters of what is going on here. My, and many others, are working to help people understand the transition, but your help is needed. If you must point the Mac site somewhere, point it to the Alpha page, not the page that looks like Mac is ready to go!

I agree Joe. When I went to check the macbiblesoftware.com page for any updates on my current 1.2 Mac version it redirected me to the Logos 4 page. Once I saw all the features, I figured the Mac version was almost equivalent to the PC version. I upgraded only to find out it was an Alpha (not even a beta). Well I love Logos Bible software and the company for bringing us great tools, but I was disappointed to purchase a software that wasn't going to function well upfront. If this would have been made clear, then I would have waited. However, I look forward to the updates. I can't wait to have it up and running. Thanks for all your help on these forums. And although sad, I do still believe patience is a virtue. LOL
