Merging Lists

I find the explanation and process for merging lists a bit confusing.

“Merging”, means taking 2 and making one. Like highways we all drive on every day. 2 lanes become one. One is eliminated.

However that option doesn’t seem to be an option. That takes one more step, or two more steps to delete the 2 originals. So that option needs to be available to. At least that’s the way I view merge. Smile

Sorry, but to use your analogy against your argument... When two roads merge, they are still "two roads" a mile back. For those who are trying to form one single document, your way would be more convenient, but it would be much more of an inconvenience to have to recreate the old lists later. While I would not want it set up the way you suggest as the default, it would be good to have a "merge into one" option.

There are four ways to merge and the only way I might consider deleting the originals is for a Union (all items in either list). A Difference merge will show the items in one list but not the other e.g.

List 1 = {A, B, C, D, E, F, G}

List 2 = {A, B, C, D, E, F}

Open List 1 and choose List 2. When the common items are removed from List 1 you end up with List 3 = {G}

Open List 2 and choose List 1. When the common items are removed from List 2 you end up with List 4 = {} or empty!

So there is no point eliminating List 1 and List 2. Any Union of those lists will be the same as List 1!
