The last install I did in defualt directory took 16 hrs to index.. cos I posted it here

I had to reinstall, and this time I did the following:

  1. downloaded and ran installer (sr3)
  2. signed in
  3. chose custom directory
  4. killed Logos4 when it started to download
  5. held ctrl down to put it into work offline
  6. ran scan command on saved resources directory
  7. restarted Logos again in offline mode
  8. checked the resources folder to see stuff being copied in
  9. walked away, and checked before  I went to bed, and it was still working away (sadly I never checked the indexing time)

As I upgraded to plainum yesterday I expected it to take much longer to index, with these 202 new resources added

So I get up thismorning come to my PC, and no Icon (AARGH..) I thought the indexer had crashed during the night, as I expected it to still be indexing now (12 hours later)..

but on checking, all seems good

index made in 5.75 hours AMAZING... indexing time 10 hours less..

so now the question... what caused the huge jump in performance, was it the custom directory, or was it the working offline, and if so why is the indexer going on line for anyway??? or maybe even a combination of both, will leave that for Bradley and co to explain/work out

I suppose I could just not care, but am now interested as to why and what caused the "supercharged" indexing process, not that I want it slower..

You have looked under the hood more than I, but with my 1 GB Memory machine, I have found that the indexing time is drastically dependent on available RAM.  It is also slowed down a bit by the HD, so if you had significantly more room and less fragmentation, that would help as well.  But by a factor of 3?  Wow!

When was the last install you mentioned at the beginning of your post? There has been many performance increases in each new release since the betas even..
