Textual comparisons

I am studying particular verses from both Exodus and Deuteronomy in order to compare them. The material is closely parallel.

How do I set up a two column Word document to copy and paste verses in order to compare them side by side and can I save the document in Logos?

In order to save them in Logos, you need word 2007 or later. If you do not have it, use hotmail's skydrive, and save the info in their online word editor, and then download it to your computer. Logos 4 is about to release Public Book Build. This allows you to save word documents and have them work similar to a Logos book.

In word, go to the insert tab, and select table. Choose the amount or rows and columns that you want, possibly two columns, and maybe (30) rows, depending on your needs.

As it relates to copying Bible verses go to the Logos wiki. http://wiki.logos.com/Copy_Bible_Verses for further instruction if needed.

Would creating two Passage Lists (http://wiki.logos.com/Passage_List) and then comparing them side-by-side be another way of achieving what you want within Logos?

can I save the document in Logos?

A simple thing to do if you want to be able to quickly refer to your work in Word at a later date is to add a shortcut to the Word document file in your favorites tool. Then at a later date your text comparison work in Word will open by simply clicking on the link.

Hi Norman,

i have detailed the steps below which worked for me.

1. Open your Text Compare tools (i used 2 text compare windows) to the verses that you want in each column

2. Then in the TC that you want on the left column, click on the TC icon to open its menu, then click on Print/Export.

3. Now in the Print window click on Send to new document Microsoft Word to have Logos4 send your TC to a new Word doc

4. Now select all the text that Logos4 pasted into your Word doc.

5. Now click on Insert Table and select Insert Table. Word will place all your selected text into a table with one column.

6. Now we want to insert a new column to the right. So click at the top of the column to select that column, then right-click and in the pop-up menu click on Insert columns to the Right.

7. i added a few lines below the table, then inserted a Page break. Then i switched to the 2 page view and made sure that my cursor was at the top of the 2nd page. (all this is preparation for the next set of steps)

7a. Now in Logos4 select your 2nd Text Compare window and select Print/Export like you did in step 2. In the Print window select Paste into open document and click on Microsoft Word.

8. Now in Word on your new text on the 2nd page, select the text and have it placed into a table like you did in steps 4 & 5.

9. Now select the text in your 2nd table (i did this by selecting the text in the bottom row and dragged to the top row).

10. Now grab the text in the top row of the 2nd table and drag it to the empty column in the 1st table and drop it there.

11. Now select the empty right column in the 1st table and delete it. (we needed to have multiple columns to be able to drag and drop the 2nd table into it, but now we want to remove the temp column)

12. Now you have both your Text Compares in 2 column table in Word

13. Now you can use Logos4 to create your new PB which will have your TC double columns.
(The ability to use PB is still in beta, but hopefully in the near future you can do this step)
