Using iWorks Pages for PBB

As a mac user, all my book material is done using iWorks Pages. PBB only takes docx format. This is a question for the Logos folks... Is it better to build the book in Pages, save to doc format then use a converter to make it docx (which converter, I do not know) or should I break down, transfer my document to Word to develop and save them there?

Perhaps you guys would recommend a convert for the iWorks folks out there on the mac side.

Am a PC user but thought it had word export built in:

Open your Pages document, then go to File > Export. Click "Word", or is that just "Pages"

Yes, you can do that, the problem is it exports to doc format not docx format.

Back to square one.

You could try Libre Office. I have not tried it (I have both pages and Word), but I have heard good things about it.

I have thought of that and was looking fro OpenOffice.org and NeoOfice. The problem is that all of these can probably read / open the .docx files but not write to .docx files. And that is just the only problem to overcome. It looks like that a solution is to transport the files to someone with a PC or Mac with Office on it and convert your .doc (exported from Pages) files to .docx files...and then put them back on your own Mac to build the PBB's. I think there are also online converters available, but I never trust them completely..

I am sure there are reasons why this is a bad idea but I just made a first stab at producing a book by using Text Edit and saving as docx from there.

I'll bet there are limitations - but my effort seems to open ok and the bible refs open without any handling on my part.

Found a blog earlier this year comparing OpenOffice, NeoOffice, and LibreOffice => http://easyosx.wordpress.com/2011/05/05/openvsneovslibre/ While all 3 can read docx files, NeoOffice and LibreOffice can write docx format. Since LibreOffice forked from OpenOffice (after Oracle bought Sun), more features have been added to LibreOffice. Also, Apple's TextEdit can save as docx.

If you have Office for Mac you could develope and edit the documents in Pages export it to a .doc file, then resave it as a .docx, I wasn't sure if you have just iWork. I prefer editing in Pages.
