Import from logos 2.1 PC to logos 4 Mac

Hi all,

I've been looking for an answer on the forums to this, but I've not found one.

I have logos 2.1 for PC with the IVP Essential Reference Collection (fairly expensive set of materials). I'm now using logos 4 for Mac and I'm wondering if there is a way of importing the books in logos 2.1 format into the logos 4 software for mac?

I've read and importing to logos 4 on mac is not possible, but that it might be possible to get the data into logos 4 for PC and then transfer the data over the logos.com system using my username and password. Is this true?

I just want to make sure it is worth installing 4.0 on a PC, importing the books and then doing the transfer before I go through the work of installing logos 4 on the PC.

To do this you will need a PC. It will involve installing version 3 (Libronix) beside the LLS so that Libronix can pick up the licenses from the older program and then use Libronix to sync the licenses with the server. After that your L4 Mac should pick up the licenses after a short wait and a restart.

Hi Matthew, welcome to the forum!

I think the best (and, if it works, least cumbersome for you) idea would be to call or mail logos Customer Service with proof that you are a valid owner of the IVP reference set. They are able to activate the licence key on their central licence database server and the ressources will then automatically download and install on Logos 4 without any further hassle for you.

AFAIK there is no real import of old files into Logos 4 for PC. Logos 4 may scan a drive for L4 as well as Libronix/Logos 3 resources, but can use them only if the licence is activated on Logos' servers. Don't know if this works for Logos 2 files as well, but again using the resource would require the licence being known to the Logos licence database server.

If you want to get around customer service, maybe there is a way to import Logos 2 files into Logos 3 - if you can use them there, it's possible to sync your licence data from your local Logos 3 installation to the Logos server - subsequently it will work as described above (provided your Logos ID - usually email - is identical). EDIT: it seems there is a functionality (I was typing too slow).

I'm not certain how one would verify ownership of the IVP Essentials collection. I know I don't have any receipts from that long ago and the LLS didn't use license numbers like Libronix did. I suppose a picture of you holding the disc/box might work to prove it to CS for them to flip the switch.

Hi All,

Thank you for the detailed and quick suggestions. I've emailed support and asked them what they can do for me. It would be a lot easier if they could flip a switch, but there is no license key information on this disc and it was given to me as a gift a while ago.

I hope that they will be able to help. If not, I'll try the manual method. Kevin's link looked like it did offer a update option from 2.1 to 3 and then I could upgrade to 4, sync through the logos servers and then bring the data over to mac.

That would take a few hours so I hope they'll be reasonable with recognising the purchase!

Post would not be a good idea for me, especially since I'm in the UK.

Just in case I wasn't clear, you don't need to install L4 Windows. As long as the email address L3 uses is the same as the one L4 uses then the licenses will get to your Mac, just as long as you sync licenses in Libronix. You don't need to load the book files into L3 either.

Hopefully you won't need to and CS will help [:)].

Matthew, Alabama just was making fun of me - I really meant "email" when I wrote "mail". It never occurred to me to advise snail mail postal service.

BTW there is a nice coincidence: the very first Logos resource I bought was the IVP Reference Collection on CD-ROM (but I have the L3 version) - I ordered it from a German online bookstore and I had to wait some six weeks or so for shipment of the box to me in Germany. By that time I already had L3, L4, a bunch of ressources and the Minimal Crossgrade installed on my PC.

Option: wiki Logos 4 Mac => Need Logos 4 PC feature? section includes Windows virtualization and native boot options on a Mac. For LLS 2.1 upgrade to Libronix 3, suspect Windows XP would be less hassle (seem to remember LLS 2.1 upgrade to Libronix 3.0 by using Tools => Libronix Update)

One of the wonders of Skype is that you can call customer services for pennies and due to the quirks of the time zones they stay open late into our (UK) evenings.

I use this method whenever I want to buy something - it pays to have your own Customer services rep.

Don't forget to thank them for staying open so late - it causes much confusion.

One more thing.. if anything is missing when you get into Logos 4, you may need to copy a few files over from the old 2.1, Logos will read them and Libronix files too... the just need to be placed in your new resources folder. Which is located in your user Library folder (under lion you need to make it visible). If you are in need of doing this, reply and I will give you more detailed instructions.
