Love the iPhone app. It's fantastic. Unfortunately I only have an iPod touch so I am restricted to Wi-Fi. Is there an Android app coming potentially?
Yeah, that would make my day.
Well, it would make the day that the Lord made technocool. [:D]
Lew
I second that motion!
The Verizon/Motorola/Google Droid phone comes out tomorrow. I have a Blackberry Storm because it was the only semi-decent phone Verizon had.
But if I could get Logos on the Droid, I'd get it tomorrow. Literally. Tomorrow.
That way I could stop trying to borrow my daughter's iPod Touch.
Give it a few months.
Currently, user numbers are so low as to not justify it - the Android roll out in the US was atrocious. But, with all the new phones coming, with every carrier, user numbers will very soon justify an investment in such a product.
Just got a MyTouch 3g. Please roll out an Android App. Thank you. Praise God for your ministry.
I would also love to see an Android app. Really like your product, really like my Android ...
Am also massively keen to see a version of Logos for Android if anyone at Logos is listening...???
this gets my vote as well, but i'm gladly enjoying the app on my iPod touch in the meantime :-)
lj.
The plan right now is to create a web based solution that will work on all devices, then to one by one craft specific solutions for various platforms which highlight the capacity of that particular platform.
I, too, would love to see Logos on the Android.
I want to by a smartphone, but an iPhone is not an option. I simply don't want to lock myself to Apple. A logos android app would definitely be good.
I too want an android app...
I too would like to see an android application I'm using a G1 Google phone with the latest firmware
We don't have plans for a dedicated Android app yet, but you can visit http://library.logos.com in any mobile phone browser to get similar functionality.
Olive Tree Actually offers bible software for Android. They have nice selection of study tools
I have been a logos users since 1991. I have more than 2600 logos resources and would certainly appreciate an android application. Can we please make this happen?
I wrote a little wrapper application for Android that will help with library.logos.com. All that its using is WebView (a part of the Android SDK) but it gives it a little more of an Android fell. You have to have "Unknown Sources" enabled in the applications settings menu to install it for now. But I may put it on the market later. (If I can figure out why the logo is not working)

gracias Zach! much appreciated!
I am hoping to see an App for the Verizon Driod phone. I too have the storm, but I am getting the Driod and I hope Logos will make an app for this phone.
If anyone tries my app with an Android device with keyboard don't open it on the login page or you will be taken back to the index page. I will try and fix that soon.
An android app would really complete the logos experience for me too!
Bring it to this wonderful open-source platform please!
I just want to keep this thread going by saying that I, too, would love to see Logos on Android. It's only a matter of time before this platform at least matches the widespread use of the iPhone.
God bless and thank you for the work you've done!
Android is the future of smartphones. Time to get Logos on it! I have an HTC Hero and I have been with Logos since 1.6 or before and I have over 2500 resources. I don't want Olive Tree I want Logos!!
This is the same battle that went on between Apple and the PC and the open source won. The numbers are increasing daily. I won't use an iPhone.
Android is the future of smartphones.
I have been with Logos since 1.6
I won't use an iPhone.
A droid app is essential! Many of us have carriers who do not offer iphones!
Logos App for Android, please!
Logos 4 for Verizon Android PLEASE .........................................
I am not into Apple products, so the ipod.... is not for me . I have ordered a Android phone from Sprint, and will get it soon. However, before I ordered it I made sure that there were Bible Programs for it and there are all kinds of them. It would be nice if Logos would put out a product for Android based phones.
God Bless
Logos will eventually release an Android version. They would be foolish not to. The numbers for the first qtr of 2010 shows that Android-based phones are still a fraction--9 percent--of the U.S. smartphone market, but they also posted the fastest growth of any smartphone platform over the last three months. Google and its partners gained 5.2 percentage points of market share from November 2009 to February 2010, whle apple was down .1%. Verizon's network has a lot to do with this.
And I am also not interested in a web based Logos. What will I do when I am up in Maine camping where nobody has coverage? If that is my only choice, i would prefer to go with another bible software package, while Logos is the best available, it would not be there for my Android? Maybe Olive Tree will suffice for now...
I only quoted this because it is information that a software developer should not ignore. I'm picking up my HTC Incredible this month and ditching my iPhone. [:)]
Blessings
jim!
It's not clear to me that Logos is intent on producing a solution for any platform that works well in an offline state. You'd probably be frustrated camping with an iPhone too, since so much functionality depends on backend servers. I hope this changes, but the navigator is keeping the roadmap to himself. [;)]
I'm sure Logos would love to put their software on multiple platforms. But right now Apple controls around 64% share of the Smartphone market: Which is why Logos is on Apple products and is slow to develop others. But, I'm sure that in time others will come (otherwise they wouldn't be asking for our input). It just has to make more bottom line sense than twenty or thirty people asking for it on a forum. That, of course, is just my guess (and I'm wrong a lot when I do that!)--I have no idea what Logos is thinking.
For what it's worth, as of last month Android users used more internet than iPhone users (that's not total users, but Droid users seem to be using their capabilities more than iPhone users). If I can find the article I will post it here.
No one can deny that Droid use is growing at a much faster rate than iPhone use. It is only a matter or time before there is a legitimate Logos Droid app. The problem with a Droid app is there is no standard for Droid. An iPhone app is an iPhone app, with Droid you have to figure if you are working on 1.6, 2.0 or 2.1 or whatever. Not all phones have the same OS or support the same OS.
But right now Apple controls around 64% share of the Smartphone market: Which is why Logos is on Apple products and is slow to develop others.
In the US. And that's Apple's Keynote statistic. Worldwide, Nokia is the leader for smartphones, followed by RIM (Blackberry), followed by Apple in third:
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/04/27/blackberry-os.html
With that said, RIM's new OS release is essentially a response to Apple's growing strength in the market.
Here is the article I referenced above:
http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/27/admob-android-passes-iphone-web-traffic-in-u-s/
Okay, I am officially Droid clad and my Incredible is...well...incredible!
Yes I agree whole heartedly! please consider making an logos mobile app for the android. If you noticed HTC is hammering out so many devices this summer especially with the biggest competition to the Iphone the HTC Evo 4g. These devices are going to be running the android OS as numerous other HTCs will be. This would be a huge market and know this will continue to increase as more and more people leave ATT's iphone. I am getting the HTC Evo 4g and would love to have a logos app for it. Please consider Android which will be the best OS and most used from now and into the future.
When Logos offers an app for Droid (not library.logos.com/), I will buy two things: [1] A Droid and [2] more titles from Logos. Until then, it just isn't functional to be carrying around the laptop everywhere like I can a phone. I'd use it for reading more than searching.
The iPhone is out. Not buying poor cell coverage just to run Logos. Otherwise the iPhone would be fine.
So when the app is available for Droid, I'm ready for more Logos. In the meantime, I'll buy more paper and continue becoming less and less interested in Logos by the week.
Just saw that the Kindle App for Android's supposed to be released this summer. One down, and one (Logos) to go!
That would be great. Where'd you see the announcement?
Please make logos for android...
I am ready to buy a cell phone now. Would love for Logos to simply say, "Yes, we are working on Android app." Or "No, you better look at the iPhone if you want Logos on your phone."
The HTC EVO looks awesome and I would love to get that now, with the assurance that come summer or fall we would see an android App for Logos.
Thanks!
Yes we need Logos on Android phones as soon as possible. Why? Latest word is that version 2.2 of Android was released to the NexusOne (Google's phone) and for the other phones soon. This release is major and will take the speed and usability of the Android phones to a whole new level including voice guided GPS navigation and more. Also, they estimate over 65,000 android phones being shipped per day! Finally, because the development of Android applications is open and iPhone is not, the number of applications will eventually surpass the iPhone. Writing is on the wall... iPhone is the leader now but that position will be overtaken. Logos should be gearing up yesterday if not already to get an Androd version ready. Otherwise, folks will have to use other Bible products on their phones which is really sad.
I am currently a Blackberry Tour user and was waiting for the iPhone on Verizon. But Apple has delayed the offer to Verizon for so long that now I am preparing to purchase an Incredible after trying one for a few days. I no longer want an iPhone after using the Incredible. Oh wait, maybe I should thank Apple for doing us Verizon folks a favor. Thanks!
I vote too for Logos on the Android.
I am a Seminary student and a minister in our church which means I read a lot. I have just purchased Logos and so far love it. Also I am in the process of building my library and would love to have all electronic books, through Logos if possible. But what I don't want is to have to carry a computer around with me to read books. I have a Droid Incredible and can access through the web site material but I am not a big fan of reading on phone. I have been following the post on Android and iPhone/iPad, and like everyone else would love to see an app for Android. My problem is this, do I purchase an iPad that will do what I want but be limited in other areas (Apple closed platform), or hold our for an Android app and a good Android tablet (they are coming)?
+1. Logos for Android PLEASE!
When Logos offers an app for Droid (not library.logos.com/), I will buy two things: [1] A Droid and [2] more titles from Logos. Today, I am buying an Android. Today, I begin using Project Wittenberg, Project Gutenberg, etc. If Logos ever supports Android, I'll consider it then but I'm not waiting any longer. My bet is I use my Droid far more with Wittenberg than I do Logos on my laptop.
Yes, just got the HTC Incredible today and LOVE IT!!! Just need Logo's on it now...
I would love it! Droooooooooooooooid.
I have a HTC Evo 3G/4G and I would like see Logos 4 app, pleas help.
Your in Christ
Pastor WJ Gaskins
Here is one more request for an Android app.
Just got the Droid 2. It is far superior to iPhone or Blackberry. PLEASE come out with Logos for Android!!
One More Loyal Logos customer missing only one application on his DROID X: Yes, you got it LOGOS.
I know that LOGOS 4 was developed using WPF (AND man does it crawl on windows XP compared to windows 7 because of that) but this hsould be the highest priority project.
I would love to get invovled with working on the port to Android 2.x.
Christ's Blessinsg to All,
Paul
One more!! Android Please
It has been a year and still no app in sight what is the delay?
We can only speculate. But since we've been told strongly hinted it's coming, we can also wait impatiently. :-)
EDIT:
Correction, you can speculate. I will continue to use Blackberry until I divert enough of my book budget away from Logos to buy a new Android. [:p]
I would also appreciate an Android app. It would be incredibly useful to me. Thanks for everything you've done so far, I greatly appreciate it!
Yay Droid App! Has Logos said anything official about Droid ambitions?
I'd like to see that also.
I agree. Just bought a droid......
In case no one on this post is aware. Logos has provided an alternative mobile solution that allows anyone with a web based moble phone to access their personal Logos4 library @ http://library.logos.com/
Just open your favorite browser (Opera works well) on your mobil device and navigate to the following address http://library.logos.com/.
You will need your login that you use with Logos4 and viola! You have access to most of your library.
Hope this helps.
Like many others...Logos is the one app missing from my Android...longing and waiting....is patience really a virtue?
Thanks for the post Noel. Would rather have an app with the ability to load books on the phone but at least I can access my library....
I was hoping for an ipad, but with droid tablets being available at $139, i would much more readily purshase that. i honestly doubt, however, that i would cough up the dough for an ipad. i would think that there are many other logos users in the same boat.
that being said, i would be very excited to see an android app.
I would like to see Android too - please make sure it is screen agnostic (though I guess the sony mini is probably out) so those with smaller screen real estate like the great pocketable HTC WILDFIRE is supported
+ 1 for android development. Android is the fastest growing platform by a mile and Logos needs to catch up. http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/01/nielsen-android-makes-huge-gains-in-us-smartphone-marketshare/
In the next few months they will pass Iphone to take the number one spot in the U.S. And when the Tablets start coming out in 2011 they do much the same to the Ipad. Please increase development for Android
May as well toss my name into the hat. We've used the Logos app on our iphones since it came out but have since dropped our iPhones for Evo's. That's two more users who need Logos for Android.
Got tired of sitting on the iPhone / iPad / Droid fence and got the Droid X, specifically because of the large HD display. I'm counting on Bob Pritchett to hit a home run with a Droid app SOON, and done right. His, and the Logos team's, products are A+++++++, without fail. I want L4's powerful search engine for my hospital chaplaincy work at patients' bedsides. I want to be able to quickly search the WORD for what God wants to say to a specific patient.
Verizon is currently offering a bundle of iPad and a Wi-Fi hotspot that fits in your pocket (using their cell phone technology). They also sell the iPad and the Wi-Fi hotspot separately.
Check the numbers again, they have changed significantly.
I gave up and bought CadreBible for Android. I've been seeing these posts for Logos for Android for two years now. Coming Soon means something different to Logos people than to the rest of the world. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab and CadreBible works fine. I'm thinking of giving my copy of Logos to the music minister at our church. He has an Apple. I've been a Windows/Logos user forever. I'm giving up!!!
I understand your sense of disappointment. I'm a little over a year waiting with Droid X in hand. Have learned to find lots of books on Google Books and B&N that I would have gotten with Logos. In the meantime, I've learned that Logos is really only useful to me in terms of language tools (re: interlinear ESV). I don't think, in retrospect, that tool is worth the price of Silver Scholar. Additionally, having read books now in both Logos and and Nook for Droid, while the latter is handy and the former nice for footnoting, it is very clunky looking back through highlights on Nook and Logos while writing. Highlights in printed books are just more easily rediscovered.
But on top of that, my (limited) understanding is that Logos for Droid probably will not include highlighting functions anyway. So, I'm wondering what the use is of continuing to buy books for Logos or continuing to hope for them on Droid.
Having Logos "research" the stuff and bring it to the screen was the selling point for me (that and hoping to read my books on the Droid X) but not really as useful as I had thought it would be. How much can I read at once. One window. I may as well stand up and grab that commentary off of my shelf. Which I do anyway because I already have them and they are too expensive to replace in Logos (at least on this pastor's salary). The books I have learned that I want to research are the ones on my shelves not the ones in Silver Scholars.
This has been a useful experience though. I think it has counseled me to buy printed books again. But I have Logos, so I will wait around while buying print, to see what Logos finally does.
BTW, I just dumped Time-Warner because they developed apps for Apple and not Windows. The result there is, I can make almost 2 extra house payments a year on the savings...or buy a set of commentaries for Logos. [;)]
I hope that Logos will begin Android development soon and include an Android group on this forum. I think that Android has the potential to increase Logos' sales and user base.
But on top of that, my (limited) understanding is that Logos for Droid probably will not include highlighting functions anyway.
Currently anticipating Logos highlighting for Android and iOS "soon" (as a Logos user who remembers waiting many months for initial Logos application on Mac, not know what timeframe to associate with "soon").
Observation: Logos 1.5 for iOS included Logos display engine that is needed for highlighting. A year ago, Bob Pritchett (CEO) posted Coming feature: Notes and Highlighting. 1 Jan 2011 post Is Logos really “behind” in the Mobile sector? mentioned sync framework rewrite to use less bandwidth. For PC & Mac computers, Logos 4.2a new features included "Download size for updates (to existing resources) has been reduced." (positive progress indicator for sync framework).
Logos for iOS 1.6.3 Release Notes was a good incremental improvement earlier this month, but does not yet have Notes nor Highlighting. Dreaming about visual filters on mobile devices for Greek and English using Logos Greek Morphology (may need newer hardware for fast display and scrolling).
Forum http://community.logos.com/forums/p/20522/188767.aspx#188767 shows Logos announcing plans for Android on 1 Nov 2010 (about 5 months ago) that included "Coming Soon" with description like iOS application plus Android specific interfaces (as needed).
Logos Resource Reviews includes United Bible Society (UBS) Handbooks, which have become my favorite commentary so personally Thankful for Scholar's Platinum package (Gold includes UBS handbooks). Using an iPad offline, can display a Bible and UBS handbook side-by-side with adjustable split screen. Anticipate Logos Android application(s) will have split screen (eventually, may not be part of initial release). A tablet has more screen to show Logos resource text. Hence, since Logos will be my primary use for Android, waiting for Logos Android application to ship that works on tablets, then hope to purchase a good tablet.
Thankful http://Biblia.com already usable on mobile devices for reading Logos resources.
Keep Smiling [:)]
Development has already begun. Apparently great progress has been made of late as there was at least one Twitter/tweet from the recent BibleTech conference indicating that someone had a Logos Android App to look at. That or, as I'm guessing the individual in question was one of the programmers.
Short story: it's underway.
Hang on... what about Windows Phone 7 [grin]?
This week would be a perfect time for a release, especially at the Google IO if that were possible, lot of new stuff being announced. Come on Logos for Android!
Yeah...come on Logos! I'm taking delivery of my new Asus Transformer tomorrow!! [:O]
I wish we could at least get a timeline.
http://www.logos.com/android
Enjoy!
YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!
