OT: Please pray for those affected by the earthquake on the east coast of the United States earlier

Pictures of the horrific devastation are now beginning to come through ...

Instead of Artificial Intelligence, I prefer to continue to rely on Divine Intelligence instructing my Natural Dullness (Ps 32:8, John 16:13a)

    I'm about 30 miles NE of the epicenter.  It was scary since we don't get earthquakes here often, so it took a little bit to figure out what was going on (can you believe that in my thought process the thought "what on EARTH are the kids doing up there!!??!" came before "oh wow that's a earthquake!")  

    Some schools are closed tomorrow so they can check for structural damage, and the local community college has canceled some classes due to possible damage. My son's school let out 45 minutes early today.

    We had an aftershock about an hour ago - just a little rumble, no big deal.

    OK - just got word my son's school is closed tomorrow too (text just came through now)

    I have to say, though - it gives me a new appreciation for what they went through in Japan earlier this year.  This was just a little 5.9 - some shaking and terrifying rumbling, but nothing horrific, and it was still pretty scary while it was happening.  I can't imagine if stuff started flying off walls and such.

    Surely you jest?  A plastic chair tipped over and a few boxes fell off the shelf.  What am I missing?

    On the other hand, my wife works in Barnes and Noble here in Rochester, NY, 400 miles north of the epicenter.  Here position this afternoon was on the second floor.  They experienced rocking and sufficient disturbance that books fell off the shelf.  Note:  the shelves are very full as the local BN is also a college bookstore and next week is registration at the Rochester Institute of Technology.  At least one employee was scared - as she was standing near the books that tumbled.

    I worked for a B&N college bookstore for two years in VA. It was a good way to buy textbooks. Of course, now I wish I had all those books in LOGOS! [:)]
