Why is my indexing time so short and where is my supplemental index?

Not a complaint at all. I had a 25 MB download today which went fine. I was prompted to install and I did. I saw that my library was being prepared and that indexing would take 6 minutes. All done. So, it seems too good to be true that in 6 minutes indexing was over and yes, I wondered if it was just the supplemental indexing kicking in. So, I went to Search to see if I could find the "merge index" indicator. Nada. Nichts.

Can someone please enlighten me as to what is happening? Again, not a complaint, just needing info. Thanks!

25MB sounds like a program update. There may not be a supplemental index.

Yes, I totally agree, Damian. I'm pretty sure it was a program update. Because I knew one was released. I'm hoping once L4 fever dies down and things become more normal that when there are updates there will be some kind of announcement in the forums or some way of knowing.

My indexing times are VERY SHORT compared to the horror stories I hear of 2 days...3 days...

My first index was just several hours....and since then it's been in the "under 2 hours" even if I dump the index file and do a full reindex.

How many books do you have?

I'm still looking at over 24 hours for a full index - 3500 books on a computer that just meets the minimum requirements.

I'm so used to it now that I just set it up and leave it alone

Hi Damian, the only folder I actually check is the Libronix Log file in My Documents. It is over 10 MB. So, I did find the Logos 4 folder in Local Settings. It has five folders in it. I am not finding an index folder...? We're getting into fine granularity here. [8-|]

Thanks and I found it. I have supplemental.lxn that is 132,268 kb and a supplemental.idx that is 112,000 kb. So they are there but how do I get to them through the program to, for example, merge. The only way I know is to go to Search...

One last query, since these files look large then shouldn't "merge etc." show up when I do a search, i.e. as an option. Or are these files inconsequential? So, I guess I just let things happen. It doesn't make sense to me because, yes, of all the horror stories and my full indexing took about three hours for 1,400 resources.

In Vista and Win7 the Main and Supplemental indexes are found in C:\Users\[your Windows UserName]\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\q3pqscl1.stk\LibraryIndex [where "q3pqscl1.stk" is an unique Logos-generated folder name].

To merge the Supplemental Index(es) with the main index, you can delete (or rename) the LibraryIndex folder and then restart L4. Warning: this will be a full re-index of everything and if you have a slow computer and/or a very large library, it could take a while.

I think the trick to getting the 'merge index' may be having a result in the new or updated resource. A lot of users just got the help file pushed which has 'God' as an example, and so the result turns up.

I'm glad we can force the merge if we want to, or wait until it's 25% of the size of the main file.
