I have just finished going through it. Simply put, it is a help file designed for first-time users and not for power users. There are many information gaps. For instance, in the instructions about collections, reference is made to terms that can be used to narrow the collection (mytag, lang, type, subject) but aside from a few isolated examples, there is no full documentation of these terms.
There is practically no reference at all to the kind of features L3 power users might be looking for (or equivalents). Now that I am done going through its entirety (it's actually not that long of a file), I can confirm that besides using reading lists, not more is said about how to search topics. It makes me wonder if the help is not there because the feature is not there at all?
No wonder we're all puzzled and baffled. We neither know if we can do what we used to do and how to do it!
I am still hoping that it is only ignorance that separates me from what I used to be able to do in L3 and the ability to do the same in L4, not unfortunate decisions to eliminate functionalities that were real assets...
Again, the lack of systematic communication about this makes it all very difficult. The occasional post on forums does not cut it. There are just too many unaddressed questions.
This returns to one of the very first observations I made about L4. It was announced as a RTM when in fact in some aspects, it feels like an alpha product. Whatever reasons there were to release it before it was ready, I do not know. I have difficulty imagining -- considering the quality standards of past releases -- that these gaps were just not anticipated.
Hopefully, it won't be too long before we can enjoy a really rounded-up product and not too many will say "forget it!" I have told all my church members who use L3 to hang on before upgrading as I am sure they would be lost, frustrated and more likely to give the product altogether if they tried L4 now.
