ESV Study Bible download error on iPhone
I have been trying to download the ESV study bible onto my iPhone.
every time it waits for a long time then says it is unable to download.
I have tried installing VYRSO that produces the same error message
I have tried it over my Wifi and 3G (luckaly i have unlimited data)
Any sugestions/way of downloading via the computer & iTunes?
Thanks
PS this also applies to one or two other (usualy large) resources, that are harder to identify due to messages like 'unable to download LLS:1.0.40

Have you heard anything? I had ESV Study Bible on my iPhone. Then after the OS5 upgrade, when all downloads were removed, I cannot get it back. The little spiniing thing just whirls away. Other items I have tried to download are working fine.

The problem started a couple of logos updates ago. I noticed it when my phone crashed and I had to reset it compleatly.
I have a reasonably sized library, and there are a number of other documents that won't download. Tech are looking at it, but I suspect it will be a decode buffer size.
But no other communication from logos.

Our testing indicates the problem is that the device goes to sleep and kills the download before it can complete. The ESV Study Bible is ~220MB, so it takes a long time to download. We recommend plugging the device in to a power source and not locking it when downloading large resources.

Wow. You were right. 8:15:40 I staerted it plugged into the wall 4 minutes later it showed up. What was weird is that I could browse the entire book all along. Thanks

There may be another cause for this, as I have the iPhone on power, with sleep set to never.
There is no indication that communication is stopping, browsing an online book continues to work
However the broadband service is quite slow (2Mb)
And if I am browsing other online data the failure seems to occur faster
Could there be a time out in the download code that is causing the problem?

Is there no way to make an app continue a download while sleeping? I know the things like songs, movies, and podcasts download while the device is asleep. But I wouldn't put it past Apple to only allow their built-in apps to take advantage of this.

Actually I have done another test. I had another app (the radio) streaming audio at the same time, so the wifi was defenatly not off, and the esv study download still failed. As previous I therefore suggest we are looking at a timeout/ timing issue inside the download module for the logos app.
This occurs regardless of whether the phone has locked or not ( and the radio over wifi is still working) also the same applies working over 3G

We do request downloading in the background from the OS, but it's up to the OS as to how long it will let the background task run.
Audio streaming uses different APIs, so it's not an apples and oranges comparison. Streaming media can be implemented with buffering and the radios could be shut off between buffer fills. I don't know if that's what's actually happening in John's case, but it's a possibility.
