Which Bible encyclopedia: AYBD, ISBE, or ZEB?
I'm about to make a substantial order (anything that may include the NICOT/NT and obligates me to a 12-month payment plan is substantial in my book) and am looking to include a good Bible encyclopedia. All I have at present are the ones included in the Platinum package.
If choosing among the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary, the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, and the Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible, which would be the first you would add to your library and why?

Todd, thanks for the links to other threads. I had read most of them but had not noticed the comments about the internal linking issues with the AYBD from a couple of years ago. Have they been updated?

I have all three, and my first stop is always the AYBD. Then I usually go to ISBE (but not always). i was pretty excited about ZEB when it came out: looks snappy and was updated. Have since found out "updated" does not mean a LOT of new articles. There are some substantial ones. Most are from the old set (Pictorial, I think) with occasional updated bibliographies, but not articles. This was disappointing.
ISBE and AYDB are two different animals, often not covering the same ground. ISBE has more "Bible Word Study" type entries, for one. Both are terrific. I'd seriously think of getting both. IVP Reference, if you don't have that, is another "different animal", but well well well worth it.
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

I went for ISBE first because I had it in print before and it's been a long-standing benchmark. Then I went for AYBD on sale since it's considered the most detailed. ISBE is more than enough for most people. I never looked at the Zondervan, so I have no idea if it's worth having.

Thanks, everyone. With the prices quoted on the AYBD and the ISBE, I'm leaning towards getting both.
Here's the next question: How am I to put aside funds for a tablet to read more comfortably many of my Logos books if I keep spending said funds on Logos resources? [;)]

That might be a good decision. I remember when I was in high school reading the old ISBE (a different animal) from cover to cover. The AYBD impresses me most though. It is an absolute must. I have purchased the new ISBE in Logos, but I don't use it that much.

Yep, a tablet is still on my wish list...but as time goes by...technology keeps getting better[8-|] I humor myself this way.

I honestly don't think you will be disappointed. As was stated they are different animals both very useful. Enjoy.
