Optimization

I haven't been very active in the forum lately, but it seems like the Mac app is pretty functional. At this point, I'd like to see some optimizations to make it run a bit quicker and smoother. I have good hardware and minimal demands on the program, but am still sometimes surprised at the beachballs, etc. That's not a complaint, just a wish that the direction at this point would focus on optimizing what's already there instead of building in the last 5%.
YMMV, of course.

I second this. Just made major purchase and software is slow, but usable other than three kernel panics and restarts, scrolling slow, search slow, spinning beachball and ( not related ), not much info to be found on setting up workspaces etc.
Optimizations should really be a primary task.
I know it's better than it was, but the reality is that it should be better.
Thanks,

Wiki Getting Started with Logos => Layouts section has tips, video and wiki links for layouts, including excellent unofficial video by Forum MVP Mark Barnes. Workspaces in Libronix 3 and Logos for Mac v1 were replaced by Layouts in Logos 4.

WIki Mac Troubleshooting => Kernel Panic , => Slow Performance and => Spinning Beach Ball sections may be helpful.
Wonder about memory usage since paging is one cause for spinning beachball (Activity Monitor can show Page Outs; restarting Mac resets Page Outs to 0).
To help dissipate heat for 27" iMac (avoid kernel panic from hardware malfunction), have a fan on low setting blowing air toward back of 27" iMac (slightly warm to touch vis noticeably warmer than room temperature without fan).

Should not have to use external fan because of software.

Charles,
Curious to know your computer specs. I too have a 27" iMac and haven't experienced the issues you have.

Logos 4 is resource intensive on Mac & PC – benefits from fast processor, graphics, and disk along with adequate memory (i.e. newer hardware since Logos 4 being designed for use over 5 to 8 years). When Logos 4 is indexing, processor utilization can jump up for an extended time (hours), which generates more heat.
Depends on computer model and software usage whether external fan is helpful. Many laptop models (both Mac and PC) have heat dissipation issues, especially during intense use. External fan can be cheaper than fixing (replacing) hardware issues from heat damage.

Understood, but does not change the fact the recommendation is valid, software should not cause damage to hardware. No other programs cause these issues and many actually do more work. Recommendation was that Logos should work on these optimization issues.

WIki Mac Troubleshooting => Slow Performance includes: "To help Logos development optimization efforts, please post video or repeatable steps on Logos 4 Mac (Stable) OR Mac Beta, which can include screen shot(s), timing observation(s), and logs (see How to Report Bugs in Logos 4 Mac)"
Thankful Logos 4.3 Beta development noticeably improved scrolling in Reverse Interlinear Bibles => Scrolling: Reverse Interlinear Bible, which can be very slow at times
