Upgrading base packages - big steps or littles steps?

I was wondering if anyone knows if I were to upgrade my base package from leaders to scholars and later decided to upgrade to platinum would I end up paying the same amount in total or would have I be paying more for having made the climb from leaders to platinum in two steps?

That hasn't been my experience over the last two years if you upgrade when discounts are being offered i.e. I've never paid more than the difference in price between the base packages. The one catch is that a base package may lose valuable resources before you upgrade and you would be out of pocket trying to purchase them individually i.e. the upgrade price can often be less than the retail/sale price of one or two of the packaged commentary series; like NAC when going from Scholar's to Silver.

This is the biggest reason that I just made the jump from "Bible Study" to Platinum.  I wanted to take advantage of the current discounts and I didn't want to risk missing out on resources (I had to buy Baker and Baker Exegetical commentaries separately since they were removed from Platinum).  I totaled up just the items I was most interested in and found that I save significantly by upgrading my package vs picking and choosing.  I did this for each package and found Platinum to be the best value (even despite the Baker issue).  The few resources I want from Portfolio are cheaper individually than the upgrade price is.
