I've found some cool text analysis visualization tools on the web and thought I'd share a couple:

Some of my favorites didn't allow me to enter text. But perhaps one other person will think these are "cool"Big Smile

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I thought it would be interesting if someone would publish an electronic bible that offered a timeline, perhaps like this [there used to be a much better one where you could drag along a timeline at the bottom, but that seems to be gone now].  Alternatively, perhaps a library view that would show articles that discussed a point/era in time...although that would be pretty hard to put together.

An alternative graphical means of communicating weighted importance is this.  Perhaps something like it could replace the wordle that shows words in different colors/sizes, yet doesn't seem to have a great deal of linguistic logic behind why it generates what it does.

With the rich metadata packed into some Logos resources, many things are possible.  However, like Gideon's Ephod, it is important that the result of enhanced academics not be a snare to lead us away from life transformation.

I'm not sure how much a graphical display of some kind of linguistic or historical analysis could become an object of worship. A distraction maybe, but not an object of worship.

However, there is always the electric wok syndrome. It can be done, but why? After all the analysis, what's the benefit?

I can see how some of the above can be somewhat helpful for certain kinds of study. But sometimes after all the data mining, the 'rocks' are nicely rearranged, but there's still no gold.

Huge thumbs up for this statement! [:)]

I'll admit to having great fun with displays that are fun but not useful. I will also admit that some of the visualizations that Logos provides, I don't find particularly useful although I do understand why Logos chose them and circumstances in which they could be useful.

The two visuals I chose were common steps in inductive Bible study as I understand it - identify repetitions and differences in translation. However, what I am actually searching for is the best set of tools for comparing similar creeds and for annotating sermons. And among Logos resources, it is Holman that as a publisher has done the best in understanding the needs of the younger, more-visually oriented crowd.

Too bad that some of the most fun visuals don't convey anything useful[:(] And I love the discussion the post provoked.[:)]
