field to use in searching dictionary

I am sure someone has covered it before. But I looked at the wiki page on search field and also the forum but I can't find it:

How can I perform a search on the terms defined by a dictionaries? e.g. Talmud defined by any dictionaries, but not other entries mentioning Talmud. Thanks.

Just make a collection of your dictionaries and restrict the search to it (instead of searching the whole library)

In the Command Box type:-

lookup Talmud

It will find the definition in your highest prioritised "dictionary" (e.g. Merriam-Webster, Harper's Bible Dictionary). For biblical words/terms you could prioritize a "Bible Dictionary" over an "English Dictionary" like MW or COED. Either way, you can use Parallel Resources to find the definition in other dictionaries.

Fields are unreliable whether it be "Heading Text" or "Large Text" (but Logos are working to improve it). The Logos 4 approach is to enter the word in a Basic Search of your entire library and hope that a TOPIC section is generated. The dictionary results there come from the same "lookup" that I described above. It can be useful but the terms are restricted to a Logos Controlled Vocabulary (LCV) e.g. it won't give you a definition of "mud". See http://wiki.logos.com/About_Topic_Search
