PBB bug

I have created several test docs for PBB in the process of creating my final versions. In order to get rid of my test docs I would delete them in the PBB dialogue and if they still showed up in the library (most of them did) I would move them to the hidden books in the settings and that would cause them to no longer show up in my library.

I then had all of them listed in the hidden books dialogue and decided I would try right clicking on them and an option would appear that said "unhide delete". Not sure if the two words side by side were two separtate options on one button but decided to click on the side that says delete in the hope that it would totally get ride of any remnant. they did dissapear from the hidden books dialogue and still did not appear in the library so I thought it worked.

Just to make sure I had only my final versions in the system I then deleted all my remaining PBBs in the PBB dialogue tab and then deleted the LBSPBB files in the resource folder and deleted the PBB index folder. At this point I assumed every trace of my PBBs was gone (they still did not show up anywhere in L4 or the resource files) and so I tried rebuilding one of my PBB books to start my collection fresh.

Here is the bug: Now when I click on the + button to open parelell resources for that PBB book I put back in it lists all of the parallel resources but also lists all the PBB books I got rid of (a whole slew of them test docs and all). When I click on one of the ones I got rid of it says "You own this resource but for some reason it's not in your library". How do I cleanse my system of all these old unneeded PBBs???

Thanks for the response, however, my issue is a little different. I don't show any PBBs in my library except the one I just rebuilt so this is fine but I do show all of my old ones in the book pics that I get when I click on the + button to open a new tab from my current PBB book.

So my next question is will these ghost PBBs go away if I go ahead and reinstall L4 books and all?

It should do. PB's are not yet managed as licenced resources. Remove PB's from your Resource folder and use Quick Method 3 to reinstall.

I have reinstalled using method 3 and my library is now cleansed and whole! I am assuming and hoping that before they make PBBs part of the cloud (if this is the intention) they will create a way to completely get rid of them so old versions etc. don't keep showing up in our libraries even after a clean install.

After reading this, I hit my + button and learned that I have the same problem (even after manually deleting and re-indexing my personal book files). No wonder, my PBs are not building properly after I make changes to my source files; the phantom PBs are interfering with my changes. For example, I might change a citation in my source document from "12:1" to "Gen 12:1," but even after deleting my old PB and building a new PB, the citation will only appear as "12:1" and will be missing the book abbreviation from the updated source document: "Gen." Also, if I recall correctly, all of my footnotes (in one of my PBs) turned up blank after I made changes to them in my source document. The ghost PBs seem to be conflicting with my new builds unless I change file names (again, even after manually deleting and re-indexing my personal book files).

I am running "Logos Bible Software 4.3 SR-4."

Phantom/ghost personal books (PBs) are just as Tim Engwer, the original poster, described. They are PBs that linger even after deleting and reindexing personal books (from the Logos resource folder). They do not linger in the library but appear in the new-tab menu after hitting the "+" button.

Here's one way I was able to recreate what Tim was seeing, since the new-tab menu does not always display the ghost (or lingering) PBs every time. Build a personal book and name it. Alter the source document and rebuild the personal book without deleting it. Then after opening the PB (or after it opens automatically), hit the "+" button to open a new tab. It should display not just images and abbreviations for personal books but for all kinds of resources, including bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, lexicons, personal books, etc. When I scroll through this panel I find images of old PBs that no longer exist in my library or in my Logos4 resource folder. If I click on one of these PBs, Logos 4 displays the following:

"You own this resource, but for some reason it's not in your library."

"[Title of Resource]"

A button: "Update resources now."

"Requires restart. Press the button to begin downloading resources. Once resources are finished downloading, start Logos 4 again."

So, deleting and re-indexing PBs does not seem to eliminate all traces of old PBs. I seem to have found images for every PB build, even for PBs that were deleted properly before being rebuilt. This would warrant further testing, but I am out of time at the moment. I will try to offer more on the other bug later, which is not isolated to any one source document. It might be related to not deleting PBs properly, but it might also go beyond that.

I was able to solve the problem only by uninstalling L4 and then reinstalling. After doing so there are no more ghost PBBs lurking around.

i would also add a warning that there is a possibility of loosing your Notes/Clippings/Collections/etc if you do Not make a backup of the 3 folders mentioned in this wiki article (Method 2 ) prior to uninstalling Logos4 and re-installing it.

I was asking if you deliberately delete PB's every time you make a change to the source docx, because that is unnecessary. Otherwise, if you have phantom PB's it would appear that a re-install is necessary:-

use Method 3 as given above
but backup your Logos4\Documents folder to preserve Collections, Notes etc. with Steve's warning in mind.

Everyone, thank you for your advice; I'll take it! And thank you for the correction, Mr. Hooton. I do not know when I got it my head that I should delete my PBs after changing my source docx---perhaps after I ran into some build errors. Much appreciated.

Just so you know, this issue has already been reported to Development and should be fixed in 4.5 Beta 1. [:)]
