BUG: ‘Power Lookup’ does not retain link set selection if not set to Follow, but set to A, B, etc.

‘Power Lookup’ does not retain link set selection when closed and then reopened if not set to Follow, but set to A, B, etc.

The problem is that when ‘Power Lookup’ is closed and reopened, it shows nothing, if it was previously set to Link Set A, B, etc. However, it retains the selection if ‘Follow’ was previously selected before it was closed and then reopened.

Unless one remembers how to configure it, it can be frustrating to try to get the info to get it working (and if one forgets, it sometimes takes a while before figuring out how to get it to display anything, by changing the Link Set selection).

Can the Link Set be maintained, even when it is not set to Follow? Or, if it does not retain the Link set A, B, etc for some reason (e.g. a new layout that does not have anything set to A, B, etc) could it default to ‘Follow’? In other words, please don’t let it open with no Link set selected at all, but default to 'Follow' if necessary. It would help my grey cells from trying to remember why it shows nothing on the occasions that my memory bank just isn’t powered up and working properly. Thanks.

Just having "Follow" or "None" would be ideal - the link set is obviously a trap if you clear links or do not consistently use link sets.

I use power look up a lot. I love it. But I set the link to none. I use the right click menu to populate the area.

Link sets are meant to 'break' when a panel is closed. That is by design. (The 'Follow' option being an exception because it employs a different behavior.) So the answer to that question would be no.

I'd guess this is more of a suggestion than a bug, as I'm not sure whether or not the panel being opened to no link set is expected behavior or not (I would guess, with the current state of things, that it is the expected behavior.) I will submit the issue to Development asking them to consider it as a suggestion if is determined to be 'not a bug.' [:)]

As a side note, if there is a specific set up you use where you want to set the Power Lookup to a lettered link set instead of Follow, you can create a named layout for that occurrence, and then Power Lookup should still open to the 'Follow' option on all other occasions (providing it is set to Follow when you close it, of course.)

I see your point. But if that is the case, I would ask again that Power Lookup does not open without any link set selected. With that design choice, there is still the option for designers that 'Follow' is selected by default when Power Lookup is opened from scratch (and not as part of a layout).

If a new user (or someone like me who was until recently a relative novice) sets Power Lookup just once to follow link set A, B, etc, then the next time they use it, it will display nothing. Unless they know (and I have forgotten a number of times) that they have to select a link set, they will not be able to use this powerful feature. Personally, I'm minded to leave it on Follow from now on, so that it will open with that when I use it. But it would be good for it to default to Follow in any case (unless it was opened as part of a layout as noted above too).

I personally have a lot of panes opened in a number of windows, most of the time. But there are a few that I want to keep closed, to minimise CPU overhead when navigating around various resources. I only open Power Lookup when I need it, and only want it to link to the Bibles which I have set to link set A (again to stop it following commentaries, etc, and slowing things up). So, I don't keep it always on, as part of a layout.
