I am tempted to pre-order this (it is free after all), but i am not sure how much I will use it. If I get it, will I be able to "hide" it from the system if I decide it is too overwhelming?
Thanks
Yes, you can hide it after it downloads. I plan on hiding everything that is not written in English because that is all my little brain knows.
There seems to be enough English stuff in the collection to get it though.
Jerry
You will be able to hide it, but remember that Logos only allows you to drag one volume at a time into the hidden resources section. So if you order the whole of Perseus and then decide you want to hide it all, you're going to have a lot of dragging to do!

As Jerry said, yes you can. However, you can only hide one resource at a time by dragging it from your Library to the hidden resources panel. I would not want to do that if there were 500 Greek and Latin titles I didn't want to use. Until (if ever) Logos gives us the ability to select and hide multiple resources at one time, you'd be better off leaving them in your Library. If you don't like that option there is time to opt out of the Perseus collections you feel you'd have that struggle with.
Wow. Synoptic answers! And it REALLY looks like 'Mark' might be the earlier.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Logos4 will want to index that massive amount of data.

I will warn you that at this time you will have to hide the resources one at a time. The Perseus Collection is very large, so this could be a time consuming task.
Hmmm .... I really like these Perseus resources. But most, I plan to just 'read'. I don't really need indexing for the next billion Logos years. Certainly I don't to have to hide them one by one after I finish them.
I wonder if it would be smart to 'buy' them under a separate Logos account? Does that make any sense?
And not just once. Every time you need a full reindex it is going to have to cycle through those free resources.
I hadn't thought about the fact that you can only hide one reource at a time and I would only be using the resources that are translated in English. I have a fast laptop with a quad 4 processor but will a massive load of books like this slow down L4?
Given the size of some people's library, I doubt that it will be a large hit. I'm more concerned about them showing up in my "entire library" search which is the only way to see My Content results. [This is my nominee for the dumbest L4 design decision[:)]]
My vote also goes with this being one of the worst design features

How many of the volumes in the Classics Collection have an English translation?
For what it is worth, the days of searching an entire library are numbered if not already gone (unless you are searching for something very esoteric), the software is designed to make use of Collections, tags, Favorites/Priorities, and more to do searches. There are people already who have more than 10,000 resources, so searching the entire library will often yield more results than can be reviewed. Logos' is working hard to add additional searching power in the future, as the goal would be that users have EXTENSIVE libraries with POWERFUL tools to find what they are interested in. Is the long term vision to minimize the number of resources and settle into a comfort level with searching as we have now? Hardly. Perseus is a wonderful library, and free - there is not a reason in the world not to grab it IMHO.
And using Logos with 10,000+ resources right today is not a problem if your computer can handle 5,000 resources. Don't sweat it.
And, if people are worried about searching giving results in Perseus that they may not want, I'll add my .02 of how to segregate the Library without having to worry about the tedious effort of hiding (and removing from usefulness) the Perseus Collection.
1) If you do not use ratings, Bring up your library, click the top resource, click the bottom resource, and set everything to a rating - say 3. When Perseus downloads, it will be rating = 0. You can change it to rating=1 in the same way, or leave at 0 (it's nice not to have anything rated 0 so you can always categorize future resources IMHO).
2) If you don't want to use ratings, set all existing resources to a Tag of "Anything you want". The Perseus Collection can be set to a different tag. You get a list of MyTags in the drop down for doing searches, you don't even have to use the Tag to set up a Collection.
3) You can create a Collection in conjunction with ratings and mytags to collect your exiting library before Perseus downloads.
In any case, organize your library now before Perseus downloads - it will be a little easier to do.

like "My Content"? or have I missed something?

I usually do use collections for searching and will make a collection of Perseus. However, it would be really wonderful if we had the option to search multiple collections rather than just one. This would make searching much more streamlined for the collection model. As it is now we can only search one collection at a time and many times I would like to search more than one in one pass.

I agree that at present this is not a very good design decision but if they will make it easier to hide resources (more than one at a time) wouldn't this problem be solved? It seems it shouldn't be that monumental a programming feat to change things so that multiple resources can be hidden in a few clicks and this would solve alot of problems.

Thanks for the tip
Posted => Suggestion: Add Topic & My Content sections when searching My Entire Library collection
Workaround option: create a collection that contains includes other collections.
Keep Smiling [:)]
This is an awesome offering for free.
Dominick, many thanks for guiding us in preparing our libraries for a huge download. Perhaps, in view of the contents, one should say "a download of epic proportions"[:P]
Wonder about Logos basic search of All Text in Entire Library for epic ? After Perseus download and indexing, wonder about search result increase being epic or incremental ? Greek history has many epic adventures.
Also wonder if Perseus resource descriptions include "Perseus" (may be a way to quickly filter library for epic additions: look for Perseus).
Can't we just order the library by download (last modified) date, select Perseus in its entirety and add mytag "Perseus"?
That should work Vladimir
You can assuming you didn't get other downloads at the same time, if so just unclick them out. Also, that organizes those resources into a tag of Perseus, it does not give you a group to search within in and of itself. But you can use that to create a collection, tag others, etc.
