I have the the Platinum version of Logos. I have considered upgrading to the Portfolio. Has anyone upgraded from Platinum to Portfolio? Would you recommend upgrading (or not), and if so why (or why not)?
I did. For a long time I was reluctant to, but several commentary sets and language resources that I would use cost the same or a little more separately than the cost of upgrade for me. Plus, Portfolio would have hundreds of resources I might also use.
I have been thinking about the same thing, but am leaning not to upgrade to portfolio and rather continue to purchase other items that I would use more as and when they come on sale.
Since I upgraded to Platinum in August, I have bought the WBC, NICOT/NICNT, Boice and Welwyn (I think I got virtually all of them on sale). Plus I am an active participant in CP and will end up spending a bundle even at the low CP pricing if everything is eventually published. I don't read Greek or Hebrew (although I would love to learn, just no time at present).
The major multi-volume sets in the Portfolio collection are:
College Press NIV Commentary Series (35 vols.)
International Theological Commentary (27 vols.)
JPS Tanakh Commentary Collection (9 vols.)
M. R. De Haan Classic Library (11 vols.)
Romans, by Donald Grey Barnhouse (4 vols.)
The Encyclopaedia of Judaism (5 vols.)
Jewish Law (4 vols.)
Near East Archaeology Collection (3 vols.)
Studies in the Dead Sea Scrolls (12 vols.)
Understanding the Bible and Its World Collection (4 vols.)
Critical Review of Books in Religion, 1988–1998 (11 vols.)
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, rev. ed. (ISBE1979–1995) (4 vols.)
John Hunt Desk Reference Collection (4 vols.)
Bible and the Arts Collection (4 vols.)
Explorer’s Bible Study: Adult Curriculum (14 vols.)
SPCK Old Testament Introduction Collection (3 vols.)
Gnostic and Apocryphal Studies Collection (10 vols.)
Hermeneutics Collection (12 vols.)
I might be wrong but nothing really jumps out at me other than the College Press NIV commentary and the ISBE. So I have basically concluded not to upgrade but to wait for additional sales promotions of series that I really want.Does anyone think I am missing something here?
Thanks!
Thank you!
Great advise! I think I will follow what you have suggested here.
My thinking was the same as Taxee. The jump from Platinum to Portfolio would be nice, but it just doesn't fit my needs and finances. I also bought NICOT/NT and Welwyn instead of upgrading. For the $2K plus it would cost to upgrade, I had rather focus upon resources I really need.
