Bug: Passage Guide - Hermeneia (Jeremiah 26-52) for Bible Ref: Jer 23:18

Hi,

When I ran the Passage Guide from the Home Page for Jer 23:18, the Commentary Section included Hermeneia (Jeremiah 26-52) by mistake.

Same problem occurs on both Logos 4 (Windows and Mac) 4.3 SR-4 (4.30.0.1597). I actual do a search (Control + F) to look for "23:18" I am not able to find the Bible Reference in the Resource in question.

My resource ID is

Out of curiousity, I ran the same passage guide for Jer 23:18 on Libronix 3.0g with the same resource version; there is no problem, it did not pickup the wrong resource as per Logos 4.

After that in Logos 4, If I use the right arrow, to run through Commentary Parallel resource set, Logos 4 crashed after I pass this resource. I did not have log enabled ... let me know if you need it.

I would appreciate if someone else with the same Hermeneia Resource can just validate if it is indeed a bug. Thanks.

I presume it is picking up the references to Jer 23:18 that are encapsulated in broader ranges of Jer text. As you can see this search finds results in Jer 2 of Hermeneia:

From what I've seen in this thread and above there has to be a resource tagging error or a software bug. The Commentaries section of PG should only recognise milestones e.g. [[@Jer 23:18]] rather than common references e.g. [[Jer 23:18]] or Jer 23:18!

Note that I've used PB syntax to illustrate milestones & references.

Thinking about what you said, I initially also thought it appears to be a milestone tag error (bug 1a).

On top of that, I think it is also a Logos 4 specific issue too (bug 1b); I ran the same passage guide in Libronix 3.0g (with the same offending resource ID), no problem, it is not picking up the 2nd Resource of Jeremiah 26-52 in Hermeneia.

So, I think Logos has to look at both issues; may be apart from milestone tags, Logos has some other criteria to pickup commentaries in the Passage Guide that we are not aware off.

Hoping that it will be fixed soon.

Thank you so much for your support! As you could see in that other thread I had a very hard time getting this recognized as a bug, so support from someone like you means a lot.

And thanks for doing that. It made me understand the problem much better. (Of course, when my original report was written I'd never seen PB tags, so I couldn't understand it in that detail; I just knew it was wrong.)

I'm hampered by not having the resources but one way to show the problem is to type Is 4:5 into the text box of Deutero-Isaiah and see where it is found (maybe D-Isaiah or another book in the Hermenia series).

Similarly for Jer 23.18 - I would expect it only to be found in Jeremiah-1 if typed into Jeremiah-2!

It still goes to p 45 (not the Introduction, where that footnote was found). (In case you're not aware: there is no Hermeneia volume for the first part of Isaiah.)

I have just read your thread on the same issue for Is 4:5 few months ago, I missed that one as I have not been able to catchup will all the forum discussions.

I try to summarize the issues we observed, and hoping that Logos will fixed is soon.

Every Links in Commentary List under passage guide should lead us to a commentary article for the passage we want to study (period). Example of Issue with passages Is 4:5 and Jer 23:18 .... may be many more? - it is a bug.
It works fine on Libronix 3.0g with the same resource file (with the same resource ID), so it is a Logos 4 specific issue too.
this same offending resource also appear as part of the valid parallel resource set for the passages above; ie. if you use the right arrow in the commentary panel you will also get to the offending resource.

PS: Imagine doing a demonstration trying to introduce Logos to someone else, and encountered such an incident. Thanks for fixing it as soon as possible / practical so that I can do my demonstration with more confidence [:(]

I just tried doing PGs for some random verses in the first part of Isaiah. The Deutero-Isaiah Commentary turned up every time -- and the link always went to p 45.

Since this issue has not been fixed ... I am just thinking of a workaround using Prioritization:

Concept

For Hermeneia Jeremiah 1 (Range: Jeremiah Chapters 1-25)
For Hermeneia Jeremiah 2 (Range: Jeremiah Chapters 26-52)
For Hermeneia Series (Range: Gen-Isaiah, Ezk-Rev)

I do not seem to be able to enter the Range of Bible Reference ... Looks like a bug. Appreciate if someone can confirm. Where do I find the syntax for the Range field for Advanced Prioritization. Thanks.

Since this thread was resurrected [:)] I further experimented on the concept of using prioritization as a workaround, [:)] it seems to work this time round [:)]

OK, what am I trying to do? I am trying to overcome the issue in my original first post some time ago.

Workaround: I found that in order to specify a "Bible Ref Range" in Advanced Prioritization, you need to first select the "Type", then the Range will stay. It was not obvious to me then [:(] and also you would have to key in the first part of the range, and select "Book/Chapter" from from the drop down list, before you enter the end of range and select from the dropdown list again. Also note that "Bible(BHS)" Type book order is different from the "Bible" Type book order - for us non-Scholar [:)]

Now when I run my passage guide I only got the correct Jeremiah commentary [:)]
