Evidence 1:
From the website Spurgeon.org (http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/creeds/nicene.htm)
The
Nicene Creed is the most widely accepted and used brief statements of
the Christian Faith. In liturgical churches, it is said every Sunday as
part of the Liturgy. It is Common Ground to East Orthodox, Roman
Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, Calvinists, and many other Christian
groups. Many groups that do not have a tradition of using it in their
services nevertheless are committed to the doctrines it teaches.
Evidence 2:
Prior to The Da Vinci Code, you would have been hardpressed to find many conversant with the Nicene Creed.
Stephen J. Nichols, For Us and for Our Salvation: The Doctrine of Christ in the Early Church (Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 2007).
Conclusion:
80% of Christianity is less than many
This fits in with my favorite syllogism (formal logical form):
A doughnut is better than nothing.
Nothing is better than heaven.
Therefore a doughnut is better than heaven.
