    Hi Chuck,

Can you please help me? I saw your post on installing the logos app on the Kindle Fire. I was also really looking forward to having this on my Kindle. I followed your instructions to "Allow installation of applications from unknown sources".  You lost me after that. Exactly how do I download the ".apk file"?  where.....how ....do I find that? I tried going to the app store on the Fire. I tried going to amazon website and logos website. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Can you please help me?

    Thank you

    Linda

    JJ,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the detailed step by step instructions for those of us who are technically challenged! A blind man could follow your directions...so they even worked for me! I am soooo happy now! The logo looks kinda funny on the carousel...but who cares. It works!!! I was starting to get so frustrated. I am thrilled with my Kindle. I had my old one a few years. Ordered the fire and the touch and was sooo looking forward to having my logos on it. Anyway I am thrilled now. Thanks for taking the time to help those of us who are helpless...but not hopeless out.

    :-) Linda

The Logos app appears in their app store, but when I tried to download it to my Fire, it shows not compatible.

Big disappointment.  Hope this gets resolved.

Jerry, read through this thread, earlier there are instructions on how to get the app on the Amazon Kindle Fire. It needs to be sideloaded.

Will this also fix the problem on the Kindle in which the search feature is obscured at the bottom of the page and difficult to select? Another problem I have on "Fire," which I don't have on my droid, is related to the menu items at the bottom of the page. Sometimes they show and sometimes they don't. Sometimes I see them for an instant and then they either disappear or are blocked by the main selection box of the fire itself. Sometimes I have to go back to the Fire home page and then to Logos to get back where I was before trying to do a search or word look up.

Amazon just changed the Android Logos App from Non-Compatible with the Kindle Fire to COMPATIBLE.

I downloaded it and describe my impressions below.

    Here is the link:

    http://www.amazon.com/Logos-Bible-Software/dp/B0062RM1VQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=mobile-apps&qid=1322074652&sr=1-1

    Some of my first impressions:

    1. The fonts were small and could not be changed or enlarged.

    2. I did manage to download the NIV 1984 and Easton's Bible Dictionary.  I could not find online The Bible Knowledge Commentary.

    3. The NIV 1984 did index and became accessible.  Searches were fast.  Table of contents and location of books and verses were convenient.

    4. If I did a long hold on a word, the dictionary definition did NOT come up.

    5. Access to my extensive footnotes did not appear nor was I able to download them.

    6. Right now I can really only use Logos on my PC.  For a great Android App for use with the Kindle Fire I use Tecarta.  It allows parallel display of different bibles in Landscape Mode and clear use of downloaded books and books still in the cloud.  They allow access to all their books free and only charge for some if one downloads them. It also allows enlargement of fonts, scrolling  of pages automatically for use in Bible studies and easy insertion, marking and reading of my own notes both margin notes and general notes.

    7. If Logos gets improved a LOT, I will then be able to use it on my Kindle Fire.  If not, so be it.  I"ve tried several other Bible companies on the Android Apps and all have fallen short by a lot compared to Tecarta.

     8. At least Amazon has enabled normal installation of the Logos Android App now without sideloading.  However, the Logos App also does not clearly display all downloaded books as distinct form books still in the Cloud requiring WiFi access.  My Church does NOT allow parishioners to access the encryted WiFi so the only books I'd be able to access are those which were downloaded.

I successfully loaded the Logos app for Android on my Kindle Fire.

From your Kindle Fire device, to the www.logos.com  Click on "apps for Everyone" and then "logos for Android"  Follow the download instructions.  While in the app, the Logos menu bar is accessed by taping the Kindle menu botton.  It is the button just to the right of the "back" button on the botton task bar.  This menu button gives you access to a variety of logos functions, including Passage Guide, Word Guide, and yoru library.  However, once you open a book, the navigation bar disappears and is not accessible.  I hope Logos is able to correct this problem

Here is the new INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for Logos for Android on the Fire:

Use your Kindle Fire and go to the APPS section, search the AppStore for Logos.  Click on Blue Icon!  Install!    How sweet is that!?!

Yes, the Logos App is available and official now.

I had previously installed it via sideloading so, I am interested in seeing if it can simply UPDATE or if it needs reinstallation, etc.

OK, it gave me a message indicating that it found a previous installation and is asking whether I want to update it to the Amazon version.  Yes!  And now it is telling me that it is using the Cloud. I wonder if the Amazon Cloud will now be used, saving me space on my Kindle Fire?  We will soon see.

I for one am definitely following this thread. I am updating it every half hour in my browser!  So let's us know...and thank you.

" However, once you open a book, the navigation bar disappears and is not accessible.  I hope Logos is able to correct this problem."  There is an inverted "v" at the bottom.  Click that and the Logos menu appears.  That is the usual way many Android apps work.

" And now it is telling me that it is using the Cloud. I wonder if the Amazon Cloud will now be used, saving me space on my Kindle Fire?  We will soon see. "  That "Cloud" is the Logos Cloud, not the Amazon one.

Click on the far right ">" for any book and you can download it to your Fire.  You can open books on the Device or on the Cloud but their location is not clearly indicated in the Library.  Also, many books like the Bible Knowledge Commentary do not appear in the available Library.  Our Notes also do not appear in the Library.

We need the ability to enlarge fonts like in the Tecarta.  The present font is way to small for my comfort. Also, we need to be able to use parallel windows in Landscape Mode with different resources and the ablility to link them.  Commentaries, dictionaries and alternate Bibles should be available in any of the two columns.

Automatic scrolling of text is very important to keep up with Bible studies in Church.

Finally, very high compression is required for downloading a lot of books.  The Fire only has 5 Gb of space for downloads plus another 1.54 Gb of space on it's non-removable SD.  The NIV Logos 1984 NIV plus the App used .04 Gb.  I'm down to 5.61 Gb available from my beginning total of 6.54 Gb.  If you use a USB cable to connect to a PC, you cannot see the 1.54 Gb on the SD card - only the 5 Gb in the main memory.

I uninstalled the Logos App and it's related data since otherwise new versions will just add to the totals - not replace them.

Sir, So you know, the Bible Knowledge Commentary (BKC) is NOT available in Mobile format.  That is not a problem with the Android port of the program.  It effects the iOS (Apple iPad/ iphone) application as well.  I am not sure what the hold up is with the BKC set, but it is disappointing it is not available for those of us who purchased it through Logos.  It doesn't give me a good impression of David C. Cook Publishers for not allowing access to mobile devices.

I am sure a program like Tecarta has its pluses, but being able to read my resources on-the-go is the main reason I have Logos for Android. Some stand alone Bible apps (be it YouVersion, OliveTree, ANDBible, or Tecarta, etc) can be very useful to have for quick navigation of Bible Passages and comparisons, etc. But for anyone with more than just a moderate investment in their electronic resources, Logos is THE must have Bible App.  Though I can appreciate what you are saying about some bugs with the current Logos Android app, the lack of BKC is not one of them.

It seems short sighted, to me, for Churches to disallow access to wifi in their building.  Goodness, for anyone who wants to have access (and they support the church financially) it is often for the use of Bible Software on their phones/tablets... they would be wise to offer it.   Alas, my own church is in the same boat.. I wouldn't have access if I weren't also teaching there. While "security" may be an issue, a second wifi network can be established with a fairly low cost to the church.

What do you think? Is it time to pull the trigger and load this up on my fire? I think so...this is exciting. Thanks for all the posts. I really appreciated it.

I agree and the only Bible Program I use on my PC is Logos.  Its the best of all of them.  There is no question that for me my PC is my main source of Bible information and Logos provides the answers there.

However, I have noticed that for the Kindle Keyboards the only Bibles with rapid searches are those programmed by Osnova.  For the Kindle Fire I tested several and the ONLY one to really give great functionality is Tecarta.  It appears different Bible publishers are specializing in different platforms and each excel in their own preferred medium.

I have learned to adopt to the widely different approaches to Bible uses in all the different mediums.

It would be nice if our Notes could be made exchangeable between all the different mediums.  Its just not efficient to have to retype them over and over again every time a technology break through happens.  For the Kindle one way to send the Notes to their books is to copy them from Logos, paste to Word and then send the Word Document to the Document email address in one's account at Amazon.  They have a different email address for the Kindle Keyboards and the Kindle Fire.

Then the Notes appear in full Kindle format on one's device.  However, to access them, one must switch back and forth from the Bible App to the Book containing one's Notes.

It's my understanding that this is what Logos intends to do. Do you have other information?

9.2 is now available and works on my Kindle Fire nicely. The problems unique to Fire seem to have been corrected. You can go to the discussion on 9.2 and there is a link to go to, since the market cannot be used.

MJ is correct, once sync v2 comes out, this will be the case once Logos 4.5 get out of Beta testing and becomes a stable release on the desktop, they will then include Notes and Highlights on the mobile platform. At least this has been what we were told on the Apple side of the mobile apps, I think this would also be the case for the Android.

    Blessings,

    Philana

I see that the Logos App is available in Amazon's AppStore.  And it does download.  However, I would love to know if someone has been able to download and run it that way.  I tried and it froze after downloading and trying to install and update my earlier (sideloaded) Logos for Android app.

I don't know if it was a problem because of my earlier sideloaded app, or if we must still get the APK directly from Logos's Forum (see listing for Logos 9.2 beta 2 for download link).  I went to this latest link and installed it on my Fire (didn't need Easy Installer App anymore), and it works fine now.

I haven't tested it with anything intricate, since I don't use Logos for Android for serious Bible Study... but it allows me to check Bible passages, do simple searches, and... most importantly... read my resources while out and about.

You can download the Logos Android App from the Amazon App Store and it installs fine.  However, one must first uninstall the prior version. Its best to uninstall prior versions before installing upgrades since they do not replace - they add on and may clash.

I had earlier side loaded the beta 0f 9.2 on my Kindle Fire, and it worked Fine.  When Amazon App Store released 9.1 I tried to replace the 9.2 beta with the 9.1. in order to prepare for future upgrades. Somehow in the process I screwed up the K Fire and I could no Longer install an app.  I  then did a hard reset which returns the K fire to the factory defaults.  After re installing my apps including Logos 9.1 from the cloud my K fire is working Fine.  Now I am waiting for the Amazon App store to update the Logos app to 9.2

Glad to hear you are back to normal with your Fire.  Can I ask you what you mean by "I could no longer install an app."   Do you mean that no new apps were able to install?  If so, what did it do?  Did it give you any messages?

I need to check to see what the differences are between 9.2 and 9.1 to see if I would be missing anything... but if does sound like one must completely uninstall the previous (sideloaded) app of Logos, before trying to download the 9.1 app from Kindle's AppStore.

    Thanks!

For others, here is the process as described by Amazon for replacing a previously sideloaded app with one from the Amazon Store:

To resolve the issue, please follow the below troubleshooting steps as it might clear any intermittent problems:

    1.Uninstall the app:

    1. Tap “Apps” from the Kindle Fire Home screen

    2. Tap “Device” to see all apps the have been downloaded to Kindle Fire.

    3. To uninstall an app, long-press (press and hold) the image and select “Remove from Device.”

    4. Tap “OK” to confirm you’d like to uninstall the application.

    2.Reset the Kindle Fire:

Performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire may resolve intermittent
issues like a frozen screen, battery issues or trouble downloading
    content to your Kindle Fire.

To perform a hard reset on your Kindle Fire, press and hold the power
button for 20 seconds and then release. After the device has completely
turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

If your Kindle Fire is still unresponsive, try charging your Kindle Fire before trying to reset the device again.

    3. Clear Storage:

Before installing the app, please also make sure to clear data in the storage.

To clear the data in storage:

    1. Click on the "Settings" which is located at top right hand corner.

    2. Click on "More"

    3. Click on "Applications"

    4. Select "Filter by All applications"

    5. Click on "Appstore"

    6. Select clear data (under storage)

    4.Reinstall app from the Cloud:

You can find apps you already own and download all apps available on
Kindle Fire immediately after connecting it to Wi-Fi. If you received
Kindle Fire as a gift, you’ll need to first register your Kindle to your
    Amazon.com account.

Once connected, view your previously purchased apps by taping "Apps"
from your Kindle Fire home screen and select "Cloud." Long-press (press
and hold) the app you'd like to download and select Install.

If you are still unable to download the app you purchased, please give
us a call so we can try some real-time troubleshooting and isolate the
issue. You can reach us by phone directly and toll free from many
countries by clicking the Contact Us option in the right-hand column of
    our Kindle Support pages at:

If you haven't pulled the trigger for the Kindle Fire, you can do so today (Dec 1 only) with a Master Card and get $10 off plus another $10 credit for future purchases.  See Amazon's homepage.  No, I don't work for Amazon.  [:D]

I see that the issue of hard reset has been covered.  Let me add to my sad story.  Today I noticed that The Logos App had been updated to 9.2.  Not clearly understanding that I should have gone to Apps, Store, Menu, My Apps, Update and Updated 9.1 to 9.2 I uninstalled 9.1 and tried to Install 9.2.  Bad decision.  Once again the Kindle was screwed up and I would not let me install 9.2.  After a phone call to tech support ,who could not help me,  I did a second hard reset..  I was then able to install 9.2 and had the fun of re installing all my other Apps.  9.2 seems to be running very well.

that's one of my questions as well.  I have picked up that, overall, the iOS is better than the Android version, even though the latter is still being improved and catching up.  What I wonder, however, is how well the KF app will be, since it apparently runs on an earlier Android version.  Will it get stuck or become obsolete somehow?  Not being a techie, I have no clue what the implications are.  Anybody know?

Now that my Logos/K Fire seems to be working I have a question.  Can anyone tell me how to link a word in the bible text to Vines?   I can see how to bring up a word study by pausing over a word, but it doesn't seem to link to Strongs.

Robert and others.  Before doing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire, you might try this.  First, clear out any "installing apps" from your notification area. (If they don't, you might simply power down and then clear them after a normal reboot).  Next, go to your APPLICATIONS under the SETTINGS area (tap top bar and then choose MORE to get to APPLICATIONS). Next, chose ALL APPLICATIONS so you can see what you have installed and find the AppStore Application. (if you have more than one (???), then chose the newer one that has cache and data).

Once you have pulled up the AppStore Application from the Applications Settings area, do a FORCE CLOSE.  Next clear out the cache with the "Clear Cache" button.  Last, clear out the stored data by choosing the "Clear Data" button.  That should do it.

Try downloading and installing an app.  You should be good to go without resorting to a HARD RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS (an option that was definitely LAST on my list of enjoyable activities!).   Oh, the only other thing that I did was I turned off the setting for "Allow 3rd Party Installation" and rebooted to begin... however, I don't believe that had any bearing in this process. If I need to install something else that is from another source (than the AppStore), I will turn it back on at that time.  But after I have my office apps and my Logos apps, there is little I desire to have from other sources... at least now. At any rate, all applications will now install without a problem.

By the way, if you had a series of applications that didn't install before, you will find one (1) notification that will have all those applications waiting for you when you are done with the above process.  Yep, that is sweet!  I fully expected to have to download them again and start again. Nope.  They were waiting for me in a que in the MyApps notification. Just go through the MyApps list and install as desired (and update too as needed).  Nothing will be lost in the process.  A wonderful thing.

For new Kindle Fire users, as long as you don't download from 3rd party sources, there is probably a very slim chance of running into a problem with applications refusing to install completely. And Logos 9.2 is now in the AppStore, so this shouldn't create any more trouble for anyone.

So, if this works, why does technical support tell people to RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS!!???   I don't know. Probably because it is easier for them. They might not even be aware that this will resolve the issue.  Who knows.  But it is definitely worth doing before doing a total factory reset!  :)

Noticed announcement of the release of 9.3. Went to Amazon Market and it has 9.2. I was curious if it would download so I tried it.  It downloaded, logged me in, showed my library but would not access any books. I guess that is progress. So I deleted, went to the Logos forum page where I could do the side load.

Fixes work, still waiting for the Greek and Hebrew issues to get fixed. A friend showed me his Accordance (?) Bible program on his Iphone. VERY NICE! Oh well. I guess our day will come. In the meantime, it is nice to have "most" of my library with me wherever I go. Would Paul have been jealous?
