Searching GK NT and GK OT

Hi this is only my second post so hi to everyone !! I have a question, when I search the GK NT for the word for sin harmatia many results appear, if while reading the GK OT I search for the same lemma choosing basic or bible search and looking in GK NT only a few of the over 170 results appear, the results of course should be the same ! what am I doing wrong, what a wonderful program Logos 4 is, although it takes a while to get used to it, nevertheless its such a wonderful improvement from L3 great job Logos thanks for all the hard and ongoing work.

Can you be more specific. What are you putting into the search box, in which search, in which resources, etc?

Can you put up a screen shot?

There's not enough info here for me to offer any help.

this is just a guess after a quick glance but it looks like the search for amartia is a "manuscript" search....only 35 exact matches...

the other is a lemma search...that can have many word endings....that's why the difference...

In the Newberry resource type g:hamartia - that will resolve to greek:̔αμαρτια (sorry about the breathing mark) and results in just that form

I got 35 hits in 30 verses

are you saying that you "right clicked" in the newberry interlinear to do the search?

if that's the case..the choose

We came at this from the different directions. I made the Bible search into a "match the form" and Robert made the right click into a "lemma"

Is this related to left and right brain stuff?

Hi Chris I see it that the results depend on what search ( basic or morph ) I use, I was using basic or bible for one then morph for the other hence the difference, the results are now the same if I use a morph search for both, thanks guys for the help, although it was only something very small ( my inexperience )

Again this maybe my inexperience but when I right click newb and copy the lemma and paste into the search it only brings up 35 results instead of 175, if I morph the word ( which is the same lemma search ) the results are 175, as I said before I know how to get around this but not by doing the search the above which seems the simple way to do it ( that is by right clicking)

First, I think you are doing this the hard way. Don't cut and paste, use the right click menu.

Lemma search:

Right click on amartia in Rom 6:1 in the Newberry interlinear.

Down the right side select lemma

Then on the left side choose "search this resource"

That will result in a lemma search (all cases and number of the word in this NT resource) = 175

Specific form (any case and number that has the same form)

Right click on amartia

Down the right side select "selection"

Then on the left side chose "search this resource"

This results in just 35 because other forms of the word (amartias, amartiwn, etc) are not a match only exact amartia

Yes I can see that, it is the same in L3, but I can`t select " search this resource " in the Lxx because I don`t want to search the lxx I just want to find how many times the lemma is found in the GK NT so I would have to copy the lemma from the Lxx and paste it into the search and search newb which brings up only 35, but I can see that before I would search in newb I must put in " Lemma: " which solves the problem, the problem was not putting in before the copied Gk word " lemma:gk word " that solves the problem, so I am greatful for the advice.

And let me add you can do the same search for a Gk word in the GK OT or GK NT if looking for lemma or the manuscript form by typing " greek " into the " search all passages in ????? " box and a list of your Gk resources will wonderfully appear like josephus Philo or Gk lexicons/dictionaries etc which can then be searched so easily so quickly, its great to have this functionality, it was in L3 but not like this everything is so much better thought out and a real help for bible study.

or I should say that your results by typing greek or lexicon depend on which search you select basic, bible or morph I see also that when you type greek into the box using morph search you have the option to search any of your GK NTs also, I am just feeling my way as you can see but if anyone has any more ways in which to simplfy searching could you point them out !!!! or direct me me to some other posts which describe this.

that is the best way to find the information I want, very simple really !!! I have to say I am so exicted about L4 their is so many wonderful options so well thought out, I really can`t believe it, it is a gold mine and for such a small upgrade fee well what can I say.

Just before I go to bed, when I hover over references in the search panel to Philo, Josephus, Apostolic Fathers etc nothing happens no english translation ( I do have the english translations to all of them ) have I failed to turn on something ?

Well yes but instead of the pop up in greek ( I can`t read greek) I would prefer it in English, you could do this in L3 easily if you selected a Gk word from a GK NT and searched eg apostolic fathers to seean english translation all you do is select aligned hits in context and hover over the reference and it appears , I am sure it is just as easy in L4, is their something I need to check or turn on ? Here is a screenshot in L33

I am away from my Logos 4 setup right now, but have the following thougths.

I would not expect it to link at the word level unless there is some interlinear information available. The Lake AF is the only version where this would be even possible.
At the "verse" level, it should work if you have your prioritized resources set this way. Do you have an English Apostolic Fathers higher than any Greek Apostolic Fathers on your list? If you do, I would think it SHOULD show pop ups of the English when you mouse over the REFERENCE and not the greek text.

Yes I see that now, it seems that the option " grid " is missing when I search Philo, Josephus and apostolic fathers, when I select grid in a GK bible my favourite english translation appears, I hope that feature will be added to L4, what do you think ?

In fact I just did a search in the Lxx and chose " grid " and the popup was GK !!!!!! so I don`t know whats going on, anyway thanks for your help.

That is an excellent feature very helpful, but the difficulty lies in being able to understand in english the references in Philo, Josephus, Apostolic Fathers, without having to go to the libary and manually select the correct english translation, anyway I am sure it will sort itself out eventually, again thanks.
