Scholars Edition for Windows, What is the differences b/t versions KF and JG in Logos 4?

I have the Scholars Edition of Logos 4. It is version KF. When I looked at the available upgrades today, I noticed there is free upgrade to version JG.

Should I choose this free upgrade? Is what I have more exhaustive or is the JG version. If I upgrade, does it open up cheaper options later? Why the difference Logos?

Welcome to the forums Greg,

Your question is a popular one recently as one would think there would be considerable change if you were asked to download a new library version and the version name changed.

However, Logos is simply updating their base packages ever so slightly for most. This thread might be the best one to read to figure out just what will be added when you download it.

Short answers:

Yes.

No to (KF), kind of to (JG). When you upgrade, all resources you have under your current license remain in your library. Any new resources will be in addition to what you have. You might say the combination of the two (KF) + (JG) = "a more exhaustive library." If you are buying a new base package and get the (JG) version you will lose out on any resources that were dropped from previous library content. Some collections in the past included William Barclay's Daily Study Bible. Users who upgraded from that package still have Barclay in their collections. Other previous libraries included material from Baker Publishing that was removed from recent base packages.

Why the difference Logos?

I can't speak for Logos but one of the Logos people described the designation as an "internal descriptive" for Logos to keep accurate records of what materials we have licenses to. I guess it beats labeling everything with annual digits ("Scholar's Silver 2008" or "Original Languages 2002" sound kind of obsolete. [:(] )

bottom line: Always go for the upgrade, you never lose.

Greg - In addition to what my fellow MVP's wrote, I would like to stress that you will never lose resources. This seems to be a fairly minor update to the base packages. The change from LE to KF was much more dramatic. In that change, Logos was asked to remove some resources (most notably the Baker Exegetical Commentaries). The consequence of this change was that new Logos users would no longer receive those resources as a part of their base package. Those who had purchased Platinum LE did not lose any of their licenses, but gained a few new ones once they upgraded to KF. Since I purchased my base package after the transition, I had to purchase the Baker set separately. [:'(]
