Highlighting=Notes growing on me

At first, because it was different and didn't fit into my current patterns of use for Logos, I hated the fact that my note files were getting cluttered with notes from my markups.

Knowing that this is happening, I'm starting to like the potential here. I like that I can create a note file are a particular study of and mark a text of the Bible up like crazy without worrying that I'm going to see it later (Or I can annotate what the heck I meant by what I was highlighting)...I just hide that note file in the future.

Or, my wife can have her quiet time note file open and markup the Bible during her Bible reading. I then open my quiet time note file during my reading and our markups are separate.

Alternatively, I can create a new note file for a particular book I'm reading and then in one place I have easy access to all notes and highlights from that book. (REQUEST: I do wish that the entire highlighted quote appeared in the note file rather than just the "beginning...end" excerpt. This would allow this new feature to function more like Kindle's feature where I can browse my highlights).

Finally, I really like that I can change the highlighting style from the note file without having to delete the old highlight and then re-do it.

This allows Note records (annotations) to be shorter; more efficient. But there is an issue with searching Highlights as it no longer can be done in the resource.

First take notes across a resource, repeat this for number of works, then glean from these notes to shape, support and correct my own impressions. This helps prevent reading meaning into an author and his writings. We do well to first organize our thoughts by source and not by preconceived narrow topics. (By the way this is a core methodology in qualitative research, especially grounded theory.

{Edit} It also matches how I was taught to do library research. Maybe our ability to search for "sound bites" in our resources is harming our erudition. [8-|]

I was late getting in on this beta, so I didnt start really using it until today. Personally I really like the way my highlights show up in a note file. It really does away with needing a clipping file plus a note file for each pericope that I study, now all I need is to have open the corresponding note file for the text that I am studying and as I highlight Logos adds my selection to my notes. Then when I read back over my notes file there is all of my info in one place without me having to search out another clippings file that I may have forgotten about. Thanks Logos!

I must confess I'm beginning to warm to it too, at least in concept, if not fully in implementation just yet.

I also noticed that I could, for the first time, remove individual layers in a multi-layered highlight without having to start again - this is a great help as I do this a lot.

As others have noted, the new features do cause us to rethink our workflows and once the issues are smoothed out, and some of the praticalities smoothed out I think it will be a big improvement,
