removing Logos 3 after crossgrade to logos 4

Have just purchased the crossgrade from logos 3 to 4 and really like the new format. Having been a user of logos for many years it will take some getting used to but hey a journey is a journey. I would like to free up some disc space and need to know if deleting logos 3 has any adverse affects to running 4? I know I have the leaders libray in 3 and will eventually upgrade further when finances become available and just need to know if it will change my resources? And if it will not hurt how do I do it cleanly?

What do you use Logos for? Personal studies or Sermon preparation? How important is it that you get THAT study done yesterday? If you have to get it done many keep Logos 3 up and running until one gets comfortable with Logos 4. See the "Logos 4 is garbage" thread (in general) for the latest posting of the please help me links. Also See the Logos 4 win or Logos 4 mac forums for more help. For more help with Logos 3 see its forum - Have not used Logos 3 in the last few months but used both 3 & 4 for some time.

Hi Steve, If you need the space, yes you can safely uninstall Logos/Libronix 3 with no worries of losing anything. As David pointed out though, some people take a while before they remove it from their computers because version 3 is what they are used to and can turn to it in a hurry if something comes up that they don't have the time to learn how to do in Logos 4.

Not a problem at all!

The only potential change will be the plethora of Personal Books which are available in L3 format, but which have not all migrated to L4 format yet. If you're not using personal books than you're safe as all of your L3 resources will import into L4 (and many of those are upgraded to L4 format already).

It really depends on your library size. The more resources you have the larger amount of drive space is required. I'm guessing up to 2-6 gigabyte.

Edit: A good way to get a pretty close estimate would be to navigate to your Libronix resources folder, right click and look at the folder's properties to see how much space your resources take up.

Thanks for the advice David. I use the software for more sermon prep than anything at the moment and after navigating around 4 it may be a good idea to keep 3 for a while for sure.....

More 'Advice' from Dave: When you get 'stuck' in Logos 4 and have to go back to Logos 3 to get your sermon done on time be sure to push your self on Sunday afternoon till you figure out what you did wrong the first time in 4.

When I go to Computer > Program Files > Libronix DLS (6GB when I right click) is the only thing I see. Is that for Logos 3 or 4, or both? Is there some other folders I should be seeing?

That is your Libronix folder. When you open this folder you should see some other folders. This is where you should see the "Resources" folder. Six gig does sound correct. If you do an uninstall from the control panel, it should remove the Libronix folder.

An uninstall will not get rid of the Libronix folder under "Documents". You'll have to manually delete it, but be careful, this is where your Libronix notes and stuff are. Make sure you really want to delete them before doing so.

Ah, good question. No. The mp3's and so forth are not integrated with L4 - but then they weren't exactly integrated with L3 beyond a link in a homepage. Surely there has to be a way to accomplish this.

While not an issue for many users, as audio and video files are only on a few third party CDs, this can be an significant issue if we say there is no problem with discarding our old CDs once we have Logos 4 installed. (The audio and video files are ONLY available on the CDs unless you copy them manually and keep perpetual backups).

Case in point the John M Frame Theology product http://www.logos.com/product/3586/the-collected-works-of-john-m-frame-vol-1-theology which has over 70 hours of mp3 files:

Volume 1: Theology also includes, in MP3 format, approximately 70 hours of audio lectures that cover a host of theological topics.

My solution was to let iTunes organise all such audio files as audiobooks: as long as they are together and organized I can wait for a Logos specific solution.
