I recently downloaded the Perseus Collection and everything seems to work great except for this resource. Everytime I have tried to open Nicomachean Ethics the entire program freezes and shuts down. Any thoughts, suggestions???
This seems to open fine for me. I'm not sure if there's something in the beta (4.5b2) that fixes a problem with the gold release, though.
It's possible that the problem is with the resource itself. To fix that hide the resource (Tools>Program settings>Hide- at bottom of settings panel). Then restart L4 to delete the file. Then reopen and unhide. This should download a new file.
If the problem is with the index, the solution is more complicated, so let's try the above first and see if that works.
It works fine for me too. Maybe you aren't holding your mouth right when you click on it. [;)]
BTW: I don't have the beta — just the plain old vanilla L4.
I tried your suggestion of hiding the resource, restarting, and etc. I am still experiencing the same problem. I am on a Mac. When I try to open the resource I get the rainbow wheel and then have to force quit Logos. What should i try next?
Don't have a Mac. However, sometimes Logos just takes inordinately long to do somethings. How long have you let it set at the 'rainbow wheel?'
It may be worth taking this to the Mac forums for more specific guidance.

So am I

Sorry, cannot duplicate your problem. The resource on your system—or the index—must be corrupt.
I tried your suggestion of hiding the resource, restarting, and etc.
"Rebuild Index" may fix your problem, but be aware that this process takes a loooong time.
Otherwise, my only suggestion would be to contact Customer Service.
Perhaps, the Smiling One will have another suggestion when Denver wakes up.
I just started the "rebuild index" process. Hopefully this works. If not I will be requesting more suggestions. Thanks everyone.

If not, make sure you come over to the mac forum. We wouldn't want to confuse any PC users. [:)]

Yes, I know. I remember reading this in a philosophy class in college — wise words.
EDIT: Correction, that was in a Greek class.
Well everybody, just finished the rebuild index and I still am having the same issue. After more work I have discovered that this has happened with every greek resource I have attempted to open out of the perseus collection. Any more thoughts??
What version of L4 do you have?
4.3 SR-5 (4.30.0.1603)
I guess that rules that out as the problem.
It looks like you'll need to contact customer or tech support: tech@logos.com or the phone number at the top of the Logos.com web site.

Curious about some Mac hardware specifications ? (e.g. CPU, RAM, Disk) Also wondering if using Logos Greek Morphology visual filters ?
Apologies: unable to replicate: can open Nicomachean Ethics (Greek) using Logos 4.3 SR-5 on Mac, including several Logos Greek Morphology visual filters.
Would like to look at Logos 4 diagnostic logs (after program shuts down).
Wiki Mac Troubleshooting => How to Report Bugs in Logos 4 Mac includes link to 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip (display logging setting, then optionally change); also links to Logos Log Scribe (create zip file of Logging folder with copy of console messages)
Other option is contacting Logos Mac Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact With your permission, Logos can connect with desktop sharing.
Keep Smiling
Here is my logs of the problem.1172.Logging.zip
Here is my logs of the problem.
Puzzling: Logos4.log file has no surprises (similar lines appear when open Nicomachean Ethics using Logos 4.3 SR-5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard). The lines include updating history and bookmarks. Wonder about clearing History and not showing bookmarks:
Likewise wonder about System Memory page outs ?
Wiki Mac Troubleshooting => Slow Performance includes: "Paging is one cause for spinning rainbow wheel (Spinning Beach Ball) as memory is written to/from disk."
Curious if console messages have any interesting lines between 07:45:38 and 07:46:00 on 10/21/2011 ? (same time as opening resource, looking for contention, which could be a cause for spinning beach ball)
Keep Smiling [:)]
I tried your step by step. Still no luck. I do not know what system memory page outs are. This is the only time I have had this problem on my computer. I have tried to open this resource probably 100 times now and continue to have the same problem. Any other thoughts?
I don't see anything we can do. It looks like a problem beyond our abilities.
Contact tech support.

One more question before you go to tech. Do you only have problems with this one resource or do you have problems with all Perseus resources? It could be that the resource has somehow been damaged if it's only the one resource — but perhaps you mentioned that and I've forgotten.
George, I guess you missed part of what he said in this post: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/39808/297420.aspx#297420
He has this problem with all his Greek Perseus resources. Minor fixes won't solve this, and a total rebuild of his indexes didn't. It's looking more like a system-wide problem. By not going to tech support, we're just dragging this out with little hope of success.
Quincy, call or email tech support.
I do not know what system memory page outs are.
Wiki Mac Troubleshooting => Slow Performance includes a screen capture of Apple's Activity Monitor showing memory usage, which includes page outs. Inside the Applications folder is Utilities folder, which has Activity Monitor.
Any other thoughts?
Can also contact Logos Mac Support by email or call => http://www.logos.com/about/contact
Personally puzzled so sent an email to Logos Mac Support with reference to this thread.
Note: Logos may move this thread to Logos 4 Mac forum.

Does any Greek only resource open? [Is there a problem with the Greek Font?] [Is the problem limited to Greek Perseus?]
