NIV 1984 version missing

I seem to be missing the NIV 1984 version from my parallel resources and Logos in general.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I used it last week for my message and now it is missing. I have the NIV but it is the newer version. We have pew bibles in the older version.

When did you purchase Logos? The NIV 1984 was removed from the Logos base packages at the beginning of this year (Jan 2011) at the request of Zondervan. If you purchased before then, you should still have a license to it. If not, you can still buy the NIV 84 as an individual purchase, but it doesn't include the interlinear data:

EDIT: I see you said you used it previously. You can enter "update resources" at the command bar if you want Logos to compare your licenses with your installed files and download anything that is missing.

Matt- First, welcome to the forums! When did you purchase your Base Package? If it was this calendar year, you would not have the NIV84 unless you purchased it separately. Zondervan requested that Logos pull it from base packages.

I purchased the Gold Edition in June.

I have recently used the 1984 edition. Strange.

Matt- Perhaps you just didn't notice that it was the NIV2011. Zondervan now refers to the "old" version as the NIV84, whereas the new version is just the NIV. I tend to call it the NIV2011 just to avoid misunderstandings. Of course, much of the translation will be identical to the original. It isn't until you come across a discrepancy that you notice you are using something different.

No we have Pew Bibles in the '84 version. I prefer NLT, but wanted people to use the Bible more so I switched a few weeks ago. I updated software last week and now it is missing. I am guessing I had a bug and got the '84 and now it is gone.

Open your Library browser (CTRL-L) and enter this as a the search parameter: type:bible NIV

What do you see?

I see New International Reader's Version, The New International Version (1984), The New International Version (2011). Note I may have changed the title on that last one, to make it clear to me that it's not the 84. [I also have 3 others there including two spanish language Bibles and Young's Literal (?)]

EDIT: There should be a single space between type:bible and NIV; there should be no space preceding nor following the colon in type:bible. (I also edited the format a bit: I separated the question from my results to make the question more obvious.)

I have three- NI Reader's V, NIV 2011 and Young's Literal.

So, NIV 84 is gone from my library. Strange indeed.

If you haven't yet, follow Tod's suggestion and type update resources in the Logos4 command bar (just to the right of the Tools menu, toward the left of the Logos4 window).

If that doesn't work, report back.

You may need to contact customer support to see if you indeed purchased a license for it in June. I don't quite remember when the NIV(84) was no longer available.

If you had any previous installation of Logos software (Logos 1, 2, or Libronix) with the 84 version, you are entitled to it now as well. If you at any time changed your login (usually your email address) with Logos, that would also explain any discrepancy, and also show another reason to contact CS.

Hm. Normally you wouldn't have the NIV 1984 in such a new package, unless from another resource (such as e.g. SESB or a larger adventist package). But since the new NIV 2011 is just called "NIV", people tend to believe they actually used what they customarily called NIV, i.e. the 1984 version, when they were using 2011 all along. It seems the changes are not as big as to jump at people's eyes everywhere. Using the same title for two differnt resources hasn't really helped, either - do you recall whether your bible's icon was blue or yellow? Maybe you can dig up some paper where the bibliographic info has been copied over from Logos.

If you really had it, Logos wouldn't take it away through updates. But maybe you put it inadvertently into the hidden resources? Look under Tools/Settings, down below.

If this all doesn't help, since you didn't have the NIV 1984, you may still purchase it under http://www.logos.com/product/8786/new-international-version
