Updates/Repairs?

A little new here so if this is a wrong question, will remove the post/question.

Is there a schedule for updates/repairs?

Do these things just come when they come?

Are they batches with repairs and updates or can we look forward to repairs coming quickly and updates more slowly?

Just asking as it would be nice on my end to know whether checking here each day is worthwhile as updates/repairs happen frequently or should I just check every couple weeks or so, that kind of thing?

Can't do the auto update settings as Logos does not load/run well with internet on, thus my questions.

Yes.

New versions come more slowly. If you are adventurous, you can try beta testing. You must be aware, however, that beta testing will be full of bugs and can be stressful. It may not be the best solution for people who use Logos on a deadline. This is especially true early on in the beta process.

Service Releases are what you would call "repairs." They do not introduce new features but fix problems. You could have 2 service releases in short order, or it could be many weeks between releases. It depends upon the current situation.

In the context that to do updates Logos 4 Mac has to have Internet access so, for the period that "Use Internet" was set to "No" the net result would be that automatic updates would be off as in it's mechanism would be disabled. However as soon as you turned on Internet then updates would be automatic.

However my understanding - it is not clear in L4M, someone pls correct me if I am wrong - is that "Automatically Download Updates" downloads updates it does not necessarily install updates. It would be good if it downloaded, but not installed, updates so they could occur in the background.

I have said in the past that the updating mechanism in L4 is very rudimentary (i.e. unsatisfactory). I would like to know what is being downloaded and installed and have the option to selectively choose what gets installed. For example, I might want an updated book but not an update to the software.

Basically to make it more... 'Mac like' (but I get in trouble if I say that phrase).

I wish this were not the case. In my opinion, they are two different things. Of course updates use the internet, but someone may want to turn off the internet features (like syncing) but still want updates to the software. To me there is no contradiction to have "use internet" set to "no" and "automatic updates" to "yes." (Of course, I want them both set to "yes" most of the time anyway [;)])

True - forgot about that. Sorry, was focusing on the update aspect. There are multiple functions tied to the Internet access.

Again I think this highlights my point that it would be good to see the updating functionality improved. This would be my ideal:

Internet access turned on always. The Internet function (syncing etc.) to be more robust on the client side so if there is a problem/bug on the server side it does not bring down Logos 4 (as we saw the other day).
The downloads to be silent and in the background so (large) downloads can happen without user intervention (perhaps with user selectable option for this also) so they just download and when ready user notified.
For installs - updates to come up with popup notification allowing user to selective choose which update they wish to install. Ideally selectable by book title, package (e.g. Perseus) and software program update.
If user does not install on one day when next update check runs it finds downloaded, but not installed, packages so they can be installed directly.

Currently I have automatically install updates turned off, Internet on.

Yes (after restart, looked in Logos4.log to verify RSS feed for program updating was not checked)

Commands Update Now and Update Resources generate working offline message in Logos4.log file.

Caveat: command Sync Now does connect to Internet (overrides Use Internet setting). Logos 4.5 Beta 3 shows sync arrows spinning while sync in progress, then arrows disappear.

When downloads are larger than time window, Indexer stops downloading, then resumes at next time opening (observed behavior during Perseus downloads)
