I would think that Logos would love to do what Apple has done:

November 1984 = $2.90 per share
November 1999 = $24.00 per share
November 2005 = $67.00 per share
November 2010 = $311.00 per share
Today = $392.00 per share

Those are great and think Logos is doing great things with with vyrso. Lets be honest stocks can be high one day low another. I believe the success of a company especially a software lies in 2 things RD and and reliability(less bugs) of the code. When you have these two things active and present a software company has a long life.

I can see your point, but honestly, if reliability and less bugs in the code were a deciding factor in the success of a product, then Bill Gates would not be the fourth richest man in history...

I have been a user since 1992, there have been bad releases, good releases, and downright horrific releases, but they were brave with Logos 4, starting from a clean slate, and making a code base which should serve the company well in the future.

Others bible programs have been and gone, but God by his grace allows Logos not only to survive, but to prosper.

I would think that it was more of a "market dominance" kind of thing, than no other option. 10-15 years ago, when the majority of computer users were suffering through the "blue screen of death", Mac users were fond of saying "it just works" when speaking of their computers.

The key, as history seems to show, is to build the product that "everyone" wants/uses. Which Logos seems to have a good handle on.

Yeah. Apple adapted to changes, expanded it's product lines, and survived. If Logos copies that model they will own the whole market in 10 years.

The other big companies from the 80's & 90's did not fair so well. IBM, Tandy-Radio Shack, Gateway, General Motors, Pacific Gas & Electric, WorldCom, Lehman Brothers, Delta Airlines, Enron, Sharper Image, Montgomery Wards, Washington Mutual, AIG, Sprint-Nextel, Nortel, Rite-Aid, Borders, Hertz, Goodyear tires, CBS, Pan Am, Bart Ehrman's faith, and the list goes on..........

I would worry more for the other Bible software companies. They don't have a visionary like Bob Pritchett at the helm.

In 1984 Apple switched horses and went from an open system high percentage of computer sales [some said they had 80% of the personal computer market] to a closed system low percentage of computer sales [Some said that Mac sales were only 5% of PC sales]. This would be like Logos going from a high end Bible research program used by many pastors and others interested in Bible study to a high end legal research program used by many high end lawyers trying to take the shirt off your back. And Logos stock price would go through the roof – The Lawyers have way more money to spend then our pastors do! If Logos wants to make REAL money they will switch from Bibles to Legals. In 1984 Apple deserted its loyal customer base and went in a totally new direction. Apple ][ sales financed development of the Mac. The Mac would NOT run Apple ][ programs. Most Apple ][ customers did not buy Macs. Most Logos Bible customers will not buy Logos Legal. Logos will make a mint and we will need to find a new Bible program and all that we have spent on resources will be lost. Please stop suggesting that Logos go the way of Apple! [[My Boss uses 4 Macs in high end art design - they are fantastic machines]]

I don't think anyone is suggesting Logos do that. Adapting to customer needs and technological advances is the only way to
survive. That is called Research & Develoment. All successful companies do that. Your boss must agree or he would be producing his art designs
on an Apple //c. I am grateful we don't have to load Logos 4 from floppy disks. Sometimes change is good.

True. But the "closed system" ideology of Apple is quite different from what Logos seems to be pursuing. Logos now runs on multiple hardware platforms, multiple operating systems, and is licensed for one user to use on multiple devices. It is almost as if they want to facilitate Bible study to the widest customer base possible. [;)]

Most Logos Bible customers will not buy Logos Legal.

The legal profession already has excellent software and there is no need for a Logos version. And if Logos did produce such a product, what makes you think they would discontinue their Bible software?

This thread is on what Apple did. To make much money Apple DID drop its current users and left them with no upgrade path except total change. For them it worked.

I don't expect Logos to discontinue their Bible Software - Unless 'we' convince them to start looking at how Apple got rich rich rich - dump all your customers and start over.

original poster is expressing concern that Logos is in some kind of
peril. I'm saying Bob Pritchett does not run Logos like the Apple execs
run their company. He never will because he operates with a different
set of core values. Every new venture Logos has taken expands their
customer base rather than alienate or abandon them. Vyrso, Proclaim,
Logos 4 Mac, even Perseus are all interrelated.

There need not
be concern over Logos' future so long as they strive to glorify God. If
they go out of business while they are glorifying God, it just means
that is what God wanted.

I can see how it can be taken that that I think Logos is in Peril, but really would I invest time in forums and money in their product if I thought they were in peril. No. I call Logos the Logos the Google of Christian Businesses and it is, but they any business that has a high point that does not see the possibility of lowpoint. I do see Bob Pritchett as a brilliant visionary with vyrso,logos 4, proclaim. These help to protect his main product Logos. I think there is still more room to be made particularly made in teh ambassador program. By the way I do not think Logos is in peril...

I have re read the thread and I miss spoke in implying that others had implied “suggesting that Logos go the way of Apple” [or is going that way]
I did put Apple down [and gave the reasons as stated] and attempted to 'imply' that Logos NOT go that way.

No, you wold not, and I wouldn't either. I'm sorry I misunderstood your use of the word concern.

There is a lesson to be learned from the examples of worldly corporations that are only driven by the love of money (Enron? GM? AT&T? Apple?) Logos is quite different in structure and operating principles. They are not publicly held so the leadership does not have to appease the strictly greedy motives of a diverse group of investors. They do not use debt or partnerships like "normal" companies. Yet they do listen to our suggestions and complaints.

As long as Logos remembers what made them great I think they will continue to be successful. And my investment is safe. [Y] [H]
