Getting ready to pull the triger and move from Windows to Mac OS and have some Q's

First of all let me say I've read various posts regarding the instability of Logos4 on Mac and I'm a bit concerned. Second, I have alot of money invested right now in Logos4 for Windows and use it pretty frequently and overall I have been pleased. With that said I am fed up w/Windows in general and am ready to switch to Mac (no sense in trying to convince me otherwise no matter how die hard you are either way!).

What I was wondering is

1. Has anyone done this and what feedback could the give me.

2. Is there an economical way to move your investment in Logos for Windows to the Mac version or do you have to purchase the full software all over again? (Yikes!)

3. Has anyone had success running Windows on a Mac and thus utilizing their Windows based Logos software? (not sure what other reasons you would want to run Windows on a Mac but this might be one of those cases...)

Any feedback you can give me will help me in making my decision as I look forward to my next OS purchase...

With Logos, you are allowed to use it on either one with no additional money. If you buy Logos, you have Logos for any platform you own, be it PC, Mac, Walrus, whatever (though I hear the Walrus version is still in beta).

Yes. Earlier on, I did this all the time - just ran Logos within a virtual machine on the Mac. I've always used VMWare Fusion and have been pleased with it. Some swear by Parallels. Keep in mind that in doing this, you will be running two operating systems at once and this could impact performance. If you are buying a low end Mac Mini, you will have trouble. A high end iMac, you won't notice the difference. Somewhere between these two, you should be fine.

You can do this, but these days I wouldn't recommend it. Logos on the Mac is still several steps behind Logos on the PC, but for most of the things most people do, you won't run across too many quirks. If you are a heavy user of the Notes feature, you might want to keep the PC version around. If you print/export a lot, maybe want to keep the PC version. The same with Handouts - still AWOL on the Mac. There are a few other quirks here and there, but on the whole you should be fine. I removed my virtual machine a few months ago and have not had any trouble using just the Mac version.

Good news! Your software license means it will just work, with your entire library, on the Mac.

However as you know, there have been concerns that the Mac version isn't as stable as the Windows version of Logos. I'm a Windows user, myself, so I can't give you any advice on that. I do know that user experience varies greatly, and many people have had no major problems, though perhaps the performance isn't as great as they would wish for.

I just made the switch less than two weeks ago. You won't have to repurchase anything, just download and install the Mac version. When you sign in, it will automatically download your entire library, sync your existing bookmarks, notes, favorites, layouts, etc.

With some of the stuff I've read, I was a bit concerned about stability and speed, also. As of yet, I have had no problems. As a matter of fact, Logos is noticeably faster on my Mac mini (2.5ghz i5, ati 6330 graphics, 5400 rpm drive, and 8 GB of ram), than on my 2.4 ghz quad core Athlon 2 w/ ati graphics, 7200 rpm drive, and 8GB ram.

It was a painless but rather time consuming switch (due to the 6GB download and about 4 to 5 hours of indexing).

I didn't ditch Windows, but I bought L4 initially for my Mac. I only decided to put it on my PC as an afterthought. Running Windows on a Mac isn't a problem although it's still not as perfect as on a PC. I prefer to use a separate PC with Remote Desktop from my Mac.

Since I got into L4 on a Mac early on, there has been some growing pains. L4M in 4.3 is quite good even on my older Mac and I think we're probably just a couple of months away from some more improvements. I am absolutely delighted with Logos and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Wiki Mac and PC User Interface Differences => Feature Parity – Mac needs many improvements for parity.

Caveat: Logos User Voice suggestion => Logos 4 Mac Enhancements has more user votes than all Feature Parity suggestions combined (Logos 4.5 Beta releases includes several multi-finger gestures) since Logos 4.3 on Mac is usable by many (includes Personal Book tool).

Yes, have used VMWare Fusion, later switched to Oracle's VirtualBox (free). Wiki Logos 4 Mac => Need Logos 4 PC feature? has virtualization tips. Thankful can copy and paste between Windows virtual machine and Mac OS X. Option: if only use Windows to run Logos 4 PC, many windows add-ons not needed (less headache; can change Internet Explorer default home page to Logos).

Caution: having Logos 4 Mac and Logos 4 Windows open at same time (including virtual machines) can provide opportunity for sync surprises; suggest using one Logos 4 installation at a time.

Thanks everyone! You don't know how happy I was to hear that I don't have to purchase anything new...well except the Mac! Appreciate all of your feedback in helping me make the switch and now I am much more confident that one of my more important software packages will not be a hinderance (though I do expect a bit of a learning curve!).
