shortcut bar disappeared

running Logos 4.3 SR-6 (4.30.0.1613)

started up today as normal but a number of book covers are missing all of a sudden as well as every shortcut that I dragged to the "shortcut bar" or "task bar"--not sure what it's called.

It all appears properly on my tablet, but not on my desktop. I really don't want to have to reinstall. Has anyone a suggestion that may help?

yes. it's been closed, rebooted, opened a few times. no positive change.

If it still appears on the tablet there may be some corruption on the desktop:-

So re-install L4 using Quick Method 3 i.e.

move your Resources to another folder (outside \Logos4 folder)
backup your \Documents folder (..\Logos4\Documents) as a precaution.
uninstall Logos 4 (keep Pre-requisites)
delete the \Logos4 folder
run a HD check and anti-virus check
install as per Method 3

...and now it has happened again, but on my tablet. the shortcut bar has vanished--or at least the shortcuts. dragging anything up there just crashes the program. uninstalling and then reinstalling is a poor way to go. Looking around the forum I see that this is a problem others have also. I would consider this a bug that needs to be fixed.

update: the shortcut bar works on my laptop, after a reinstall, and has stopped working on my tablet. While the shortcut bar on my tablet is out of commission trying to modify it in anyway causes the program to crash.

And get this: if I modify the shortcut bar on my fully functional laptop, and after it syncs, Logos on my tablet will crash as soon as it tries to sync.

So.. I wonder if there is a way to simply turn off the shortcut bar. Any ideas? I guess I could just stop using it, but that doesn't really fix the software either, does it?

No. The usual situation is to avoid having two installations (with same login) running simultaneously e.g. make changes, close L4, then open the other.

But this needs to be referred to Technical Support as they can logon to your computer(s) to see what is happening. Refer to this thread.

The two installations weren't actually running simultaneously--not every time, anyway .

If crash repeats, diagnostic logs would be helpful (could email zip file to Logos Tech Support or attach to forum reply).

By the way, have experienced some sync surprises (in prioritization) when have had Logos 4 open on two computers at same time showing library priorities.

Would like to see a screenshot since wondering if have floating window(s) open, which do not have a shortcut bar. Floating window could be in front of Logos Bible Software 4 window (or Logos Bible Software 4 window could be minimized).

.I have been having this problem off and on since November 2010. At the present, I have all of my shortcuts beautifully arranged on my home PC, but none show up on my office computer. If I try to add a shortcut, the software crashes. I am running version 4.5 SR-5 at home and the office.

I have spoken with Tech support about this and corresponded over email in the past 15 months, but am resigned to live without having to depend on my shortcuts. In the last 15 months, it's been anybody's guess as to whether or not they might magically disappear from one day to the next.

Just yesterday I was helping a fellow professor learn Logos4 on his office PC and the same issue arose. I tried to make a shortcut for him of the ESV and later of a layout. Both attempts crashed Logos. Meanwhile, a fellow professor in the office next to mine is running his copy of Logos 4 without these issues on the same school-owned Dell PC as us.

So I'm utterly confused and just thrilled to have my shortcuts on my home PC for now. I'm most at home with the "command bar" anyway, which has never given me trouble. Still, I'd love to see this resolved some day.

I feel for you, Chad. My office shortcut bar is gone and a number of the book thumbnails as well. I'm done reinstalling in order to have everything appear properly for who knows how long before they're gone again. no idea.

I noticed at the beginning you said that you were running Logos 4.3 SR-6 (4.30.0.1613) You do know that it should be 4.5 SR-5 (4.50.0.1893) I only ask because I did not see that anyone mention all the updates you might have missed…….

I'm sure I haven't fixed the problem because I still have no idea what caused the thumbnails to disappear and the shortcut bar to fail, but I have full functionality again.

All I did was replace catalog.db in the failing instance (on my laptop) with catalog.db from the working instance (on my tablet). When I launched the program there seemed to be a bit of library preparation and then all was right with the world again. I have no idea what I may have broken, if anything, in doing this, but if the program fails as a result then I can always reinstall. So far so good!
