Logos for Android 0.9.2 Beta 1

We've released Beta 1 of 0.9.2 today. This will be a non-market release.

If you wish to participate in the beta, visit this link from your phone to download it: http://downloads.logos.com/Android/Logos/beta/Logos-22.apk.

There is no auto-updating, so check back soon to see if we have released an update! When 0.9.2 officially releases, it will be put into the market as usual.

Limitations

No citation search
Search is online-only for now
Clicking search results sometimes hangs the app for several seconds
Cannot search for specific resources from the main search page
No setting to turn off presentation notifications
Cannot start following a presentation once the dialog has been dismissed
Cannot stop following a presentation once it has been started
In-progress presentations are not automatically re-followed if network connection drops
Calendar signal events do not properly populate all the calendar fields on some devices (particularly 3.0+)
Cannot view contact/calendar details data before adding them to your contacts/calendar

Known Issues

After completing in-app purchase 404 page is shown even though order was successful.
The passage box and versemap does not work properly in offline mode
Library cover images flicker while updating/scrolling
Popups and menus do not display Greek and Hebrew correctly
Right-to-left text (especially Hebrew) does not display correctly
Poor network connection may show an error message
Network connections from behind a login page are not supported (e.g. a hotel or other hotspot that requires login)
The app will crash if there is no SD card
Some apocryphal books cannot be navigated to through the verse picker

non-market release

Hi David,

How do I install a non-market release?

I tried clicking on the link with the PC, but as expected doesn't understand the apk file type.

I've already checked the box to enable non-market installation (will revert after installation). But I found no instructions on how to install--even in the FAQs.

I also got an error when I tried to navigate on the phone to that link...

So........................... ?

EDIT: OK, figured it out.... on the phone, navigate to the forum & click on the link there... installed just fine. Thanks! Now to play.... [H]

However, I'll comment immediately that we need to LIMIT the search to a particular book or verse range. Why? Do you know how many swipes it takes to get to HEBREWS when searching "blood" in the whole Bible????? Long enough to fire up L4 & do it there & have time left over!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give us the ability to limit the search----and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this start.

Thanks for making search features available in this beta - really appreciated.

However I am seeing excessive delays in populating search results (I know it was noted that there could be delays when clicking on them).

I tried a Bible search for "John" in the ESV some minutes ago and am still waiting for the results to be fully populated.

I continue to get popup messages saying that hte application is not responding and giving me the option to either force close or wait.

This is on an HTC Desire HD running Android 2.3.3

Do you know when you plan to implement split-screen reading in the Android app? This is one of the most important features for me (and currently the only reason why I keep other Bible software on my Android device).

Hi logos.
First I want to thank you for the search feature.The only thing keeping another bible app on my phone is a widget that displays a daily bible verse on my home screen. Just downloaded the beta and saw that the search type captios seem to be out of place. Included a pick. I have a rooted htc evo with custom rom and font installed.

Thanks for the screen shot and report Marcos. In 0.9.2 Beta 1 the Search feature is using system provided controls for the checkable buttons and dropdown. When we add custom styling this problem should be resolved.

Just curious - which ROM are you using?

No problem. On the contrary thanks to everyone involved in making this app happen. It is trully a blessing. I'm using cyanogen mod 7. I'm new to rooting so I really don't know if this rom is good. So far it has been runing smooth.

I can't get this version of Logos to run. Each time I get the following error message:

Sorry! The application Logos (process com.logos.androidlogos) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

The previous version ran fine.

I'll hazard a guess that it has somethnig to do with the lack of GPS capabilities on my tablet (a COBY KYROS 8") but honestly I have no idea. Internet signal is strong, there is an SD card in the slot.

I've tried re-downloading the apk file and re-installing, with no success. When I revert back to the previous version all works well again.

Hopefully I can get the next stable release to work again.
