My prepub orders are all starting to ship at the same time. 
What am I going to do? I can't afford this.

That does bring up a good pre-pub option. Allow those who purchase pre-pubs to select the date of purchase once a pre-pub is published. It must be within 3 or 4 months of the pre-pub completion date. This would allows users to stagger their pre-pubs to an extent.

I like your thinking Philip,
Any plan that allows me to build the library at the lowest possible cost is a plan I would endorse. There are many, too many, things in Pre-Pub I want. This is where it comes in handy to have a real life salesperson to help "guess-timate" the shipping dates. If it were not for Dave Kaplan, I would be recoiling in terror from the avalanche of current Pre-Pubs. With Dave Kaplan's help, I am able to seriously plan my Pre-Pub orders and maximize my savings potential without having to resort to cancelling my Pre-Pubs right before they are supposed to ship. (It is a horrible feeling to watch a Pre-Pub go by when you really wanted it.)

If you just can't afford it, then when they notify you of shipping, then just cancel the order. Salespeople can do this.
Or, if you miss that window, you can still return it within a reasonable period of time. Salespeople help with this process, although customer service is the actual agency that does it.
It's sorta funny (sadly so) that we've gotten so much into the "credit" and "buying plan" mentality that ordering "too much" and not having funds available becomes a problem.
Let me suggest two good principles to operate from:
1. When you order something, or buy something with a credit card, IMMEDIATELY set aside the funds to pay for it in a separate account (or via a computer spreadsheet in your existing account). That is, *treat* your bank account balance as "avail funds" PLUS "escrow funds" ... and only allow yourself to spend money from the "avail funds" category. I've done this for MANY years, and it works well. Reconcile your receipts once a week, when you prayerfully determine your weekly gift for the Lord's work.
2. If for some reason funds are not avail when the preorder ship occurs, you might consider this "radical" idea ... if God wants you to have it, then He will have provided for the payment prior to or simultaneously with the need occuring. We have sadly shifted our faith from God's provision to our CC's spending limits and special offers.

One solution is to buy gift vouchers to be credited to the resource you want before it ships. You NICNT/NICOT fans be warned! After my Anchor Yale Bible experience, where there were other items which i wanted and those items shipped before the Anchor shipped. Boy did my bank balance cry! [:'(]
I think it was Nigel Cunningham, i am not sure now who suggested in the Newsgroup about purchasing gift vouchers by calling a Sales Rep. I have began to do this with the NICNT/NICOT, $1000 leaving one's account in one stretch is no small money. There might be other resources which one wants that might ship at the same time as the NICNT/NICOT(like Tyndale Commentaries) So be warned & save up by going the gift voucher route.

I do have to make some decisions about what I really want, but my question was really rhetorical, and just a response to the way the prepubs seem to be quiet for long while and then all of a sudden lots of them get ship dates within a month of each other.

I agree, i have written to "suggest" previously about too many pricey stuff shipping at the same time. A mixture of pricey plus less pricey would IMHO be the best way forward.

I have two fairly simple suggestions to Logos (and for comment by others) that would, hopefully, help with the challenge of sudden, short notice shipping dates:
1) Be more deligent and detailed on the accuracy of the status of items on the Pre-Pub page.
As a very recent example, I ordered the nine volume R. Larry Moyer Evangelism Collection back in September of 2008 and have watched for months as it sat in "gathering interest" status around the 70% mark. Last week, when I checked my Pre-Pub orders it was still in "G.I." status. As of today, not only is it "Under Development," but it has a projected shipping date of August 3rd, just one week away. While I'm very excited about the availability of this resource, I now find myself doing some needless scrambling to be able to pay for that in addition to the other pre-pub due that same week. (Another less financially-challenging, but obvious pre-pub "lack of detail" example is "Decker's Handbook on Mormonism" which is expected 8/12/09 but, as of this posting entry, is still listed as "Gathering Interest.")
2) Create an "Awaiting Development" status and reserve "Under Development" ONLY for those resources actually being actively worked on.
With many, many dozens of resources having collected enough pre-pub commitments to move forward, it's understandable that Logos needs to prioritize and have each of their development people focus their efforts on only one or two books at a time. It's also unrealistic to believe that the Pre-Pubs that have been "under development" for many months have actually been actively UNDER development that entire time, (assuming it's even started). Knowing that a Pre-Pub had actually move into the active development phase would be our signal to both plan and prioritize financially, if need be.
I would think that the addition of an "Awaiting Development" status and a weekly "accuracy check" and update of the pre-pub page by the person responsible for monitoring and coordinating the various projects would be both fairly simple to accomplish and a positive reflection on the professionalism I know Logos strives for as a business. And while some people would/could clearly benefit from some creative flexibility in payment timing and options, I know all of us would welcome a Pre-Pub page that truly reflects where each resource is in the process to both help us manage our finances and our expectations.

I beleve that the weekly "accuracy check" and update of the pre-pub page is a superb suggestion. More accurate estimates of projected ship dates would reduce the number of complaints concerning the whole pre-pub system.

I really like and use the pre-pub page. However, I have the same problem when the titles are published, they seem to come all at once...and in no particular order. This is a problem since I own no credit cards and all my orders come via my debit card. I don't pay over time. I pay now! This is a hassle considering how long we sometimes have to wait for a pre-pup publication. When the product finally becomes available, it ships immediately, but it was my order that helped it get to the publication stage. I would like to see an option that says that product is expected to be live on such and such a date. When, in the next 30 days, would you like to pay for your order? It would be only after the payment is made that I would expect to get my download or have my discs shipped.
I think that this is a reasonable solution. I want to be able to take advantage of the pre-pub prices, but I don't want to have to cancel due to the fact that five $49.99 (or higher) publications that I have waited 6. 12. 18 or even more months to go live, and they all do so in the same week. I can also use my books with a clear conscience, knowing that I will not see credit bills for them in upcoming months.
So, Logos, how about giving us debit card users a break?[Y]
