Syntax Searching

I am seeking help regarding syntax searching. Is there any training available on how to create syntax searches? I am so frustrated because i know what I want to do, but i do not know how to do it. For example, I am trying to see if there is any grammatical parallels to the Structure of matthew 28:19. I am trying to determine whether the participles of Matthew 28:19 are explaining the process of how a disciple is made by comparing it to similar greek constructions. In other words, i am looking for an imperative verb modified by participles. Can any one show me how to do this kind of search?

Basically, you model the structure of Matt 28.19. It is fairly straightforward using Cascadia because the morphological elements can be expressed at a high level. Hover over an element in the Cascadia Syntax Graphs to find its type e.g. Adverbial function, Object function.

Head = No isn't necessary for the Adverbial function; just don't check Yes as that honour goes to the Verbal function.

This is quite helpful. How do you modify a search. Lets say you wanted to delete one of the components.

Right click on the node you want to delete. Be careful everything attached under it will get deleted too. You can drag and drop nodes.

it means that you will get a match irrespective of the order of the words (or search elements within the group)

so a search for "blind" and "man" (for example) will return matches where a passage contains "blind" "man" or "man" "blind".

An unlikely example but hope it clarifies!

Also, the unordered group is helpful because Greek is an inflected language and word order can vary widely.

The Unordered Group can provide additional useful results but it will also introduce spurious results because it allows nodes in addition to the ones you specify (i.e. intervening nodes). In this case the number of results is tripled. As an alternative, you can experiment by manually changing the order of nodes and inserting Anything nodes.

By default Anything "occurs at least once", but you can specify that it "repeats 0 to 1 times", which means it occurs only once or not at all.

To add another option you can use the same search in the Lexham Syntactic GNT. While the graphs are rather basic, the search functions are very versatile. The best way to structure the syntax search is by reviewing the Lexahan Syntactic GNT rather than the graph.
