Thanks for the feature it is helpful but....

After you prioritize say your favorite commentaries and use them in passage guide, they come up first, but so do all the other commentaries I don't want to reference.

Now "collections" is a fine tool as well and I tried to create a "fav comm's" collection, which works

except...

it will list each commentary multiple times while only referencing 1 verse - wherever it appears in every commentary.

We need a way to limit the use to just our specific list of commentaries and that specific verse as did, ok I'll passage guide did in version 3 when you set properties to "fav Comm".

Just a request that will make some of us (me) happy.

Brother, before we go further...I'd like to say I'm sorry if I was short with you....there is no excuse for that...

Now...

If you prioritize your commentaries...(at least 5) to take up the space, that should help but you're right....the other commentaries will come at the bottom of the list.....no way around it right now.

And as you've noticed...making a commentary collection has it's problems, I don't do it.

The main rule is; on each type of resource...english bible, greek bible, commentary, lexicon, handbook...etc....make sure you have at least 5 chosen in order....

But thats no problem, I have done as you suggested- but the same issue occurs- I still have to deal with unwanted commentaries, and even certain bibles (boy they need to re tag these as bibles "only).

I see the only solution to this, being able to designate "priori zed resources only" in commentaries or any other category.

Collection would fine- but it does not function very well at all- like I said you reference one verse, it does not give you just the main article dealing with it, but every other place it is mentioned in that commentary and every other commentary in the collection.

I agree. My suggestion is to provide a "setting" link like exists on the Word for Word section that allows you to define the number of commentaries to show. Allow this setting's default to be set when creating a custom guide.

Its simple but should work fine, maybe put it out as a test function for a while.

I know I harp on this issue but its only because though I have kazillion resources, I can only view so many at a time, and perfer to use those " I " deem useful to my particular needs.

Initially, I think Logos planned to include that feature but did not get it going by the time they released 4.0. I am hoping that they have kept working on it and will include it in an upcoming release. I'm like you, I don't want it showing every commentary in my library, just the ones I know I will be working with. Specifying a collection for the passage guide will also enhance the custom guides.

That's the idea, but initially Logos planned to implement commentary collections the same way they have other collections, just present a drop-down list where you can select All Commentaries (default) or choose a particular collection.

Incidentally, specifying a commentary collection is possible on v3 and I used it often. The problem is with just one passage guide, I would have to change the setting from time to time. I had a collection of my Ephesians commentaries for this sermon series but would have to go back to All Commentaries for other study. The custom passage guide of v4 would quickly solve the issue... if it would allow us to specify a collection.

Thanks for the rescue. I did think that was actually a V4 feature i was looking at in Philip's post. I could not figure out how he could have found that out. I was going to enquirer from Philip before i saw your post. Ha its only a mockup.

You can always hide (delete) the ones you don't want to see.

Thats true, but then I would have to unhide them if I wanted to use them- there is no way around the effeceincy and common sense of using a specific collection for that purpose.

It will not be difficult to do in the enviroment of L4.

You are right, we shouldn't have to hide them. Either the "Type" that Logos admins use to distinguish books much be edited or they should allow us to change them ourselves.

Open your library and sort it by the "type" column. To sort it, simply click on the heading you want to sort by.
