Best VMware V3 settings for Logos V4

I don't think this is exactly the right forum for this question, but the people who probably know the answer to my question probably lurk in here!

I am getting ready to set up to install the new Windows version Logos 4.0 on XP running on the new version of VMware 3.0 (I will also install the Mac "Alpha" version to start testing it). Can anyone tell me which settings are best for VMware? I have turned off graphics acceleration. I think the default install is to allocate 512MB of Ram, I am thinking of increasing this. Anything else? I am running Snow Leopard on a 4GB dual core unibody Macbook Pro.

If you have it, allow at least a gig for memory, 2g is better. Leave the processor set to one core unless you have more than two cores on your computer. As you say, turn off 3d accel then drop down hardware accel in Windows. The best way to install Windows is to do it via bootcamp on its own partition but if you install on a virtual drive it might help a bit to go under hard drive settings and tell it to pre-allocate disk space.

For networking I always set mine to use a bridged network, which is less secure but works better for me. Should not be necessary for Logos, just a personal preference.

OK, very helpful. I am running a virtual drive, but I didn't know about the pre-allocated drive space.I have also allocated 2gb of ram.

Can you tell me what the benefits are of having a bridged network? Thanks again for your help!

I cannot guarantee pre-allocated space will improve things, but I think it will since it will save the VM a little work as it writes data, it will already have a designated storage area on the hard drive. If you don't notice any improvement with pre-allocated space, I think you can turn it off again.

I use a bridged network to make it easier for the VM to see my network, and vice versa. Some people don't want the VM interacting on the local network, but I consider it an asset if I want to copy files from the VM to some other computer on the network. In the past it also made it easier to set up network printers, but the shared printer setting in Fusion makes that less of a bonus. If you have no particular reason for the VM to access your local network (other than the internet connection, of course) then a NAT network should be fine for you.

For pre-allocating drive space in Fusion 3, go to settings and select Hard Disks. Then check the Pre-allocate disk space box (i left this box unchecked, for I didn't see any improvement when checked).

I also left the box unchecked, but I did assign a potential 497 GB. I did this because I kept getting Low Disk Space warnings from Windows. If you leave the box unchecked, Fusion will only use what is actually needed, but more will be available if needed.
